While tripping last night I began to think about the structure of our society and came to realize that as the population gets larger the corporate system begins to fail more and more. When each person provided food for his family it was a far more efficent society because nothing was wasted. Why has human evolution lead us to this type of society? Why can't a family provide his family with food by growing vegetables for themselves. This is very simple and almost anyone will find that fresh food is much better for you and tastewise, too. This system will not however deal with providing meat for all and I will assume that the meat industry will continue providing for us. I saw the death of mankind because of its inability to adapt to a more localized society and this was a frightening vision to say the least.

Actually thanks to trade food and other resources are more plentiful and cheap in almost all modern societies.

Yep, food production per acre has increased tremendously. Many more people are being fed with much less labor.

To call humans 'rational beings' does injustice to the term, 'rational.'  Humans are capable of rational thought, but it is not their essence.  Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains.  Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.
