Yay me it worked.

well. i had a post about my kit and shit here but i cannot find it, its way to far behind. about 2 weeks ago.

anyways i started a straw tek grow. i had my doubts and thoughti screwed up but guess what? i went to go check on it today and its covered in a big cloudy mass of fluffy mycelium . so it looks like i didnt screw up. im going to give it about another week to fully colonize. and become pure white. then im going to start the casing era.

but ive got a question for that.

when i put it into the casing phase... i know i have to put the ph buffered soil over EVENLY the straw and with peaks and vallys for were the mushrooms grow from. i know i need to mist it and the top of the case. i also know that i need to put a light onto it. but is there anything else i NEED to do to ensure it grows suffitiantly enough?

thanks.

btw i'll post pics an a week or so.

You're going to need to do a casing run. Which basically means after you apply the casing, you will need to incubate yet again for a few days until you start to see mycelium poking through the valleys of your casing layer.

Then, this will be the time that you will set your casing into fruiting conditions...
Temperature steady in the mid 70s, humidity 95%, fresh air exchanges, light.

You will want to cover your casing (after its been cased and is still in the incubator) to keep humidity up so that the mycelium will colonize it. You will not need to mist much during this period.

Also, you know that you aren't using soil to case, correct? You should be making sure you are using nutrient-free medium like coco-coir/vermeculite and peatmoss. Only if you are using a peatmoss mix, you will want to use a calicum carbonate buffer. Otherwise, coco-coir and vermeculite are pretty damn neutral.

umm im scared.

ok now that i got through the mycelium stages pretty well ok (knocks on wood) i am afraid of the casing stage.

im afraid im going to screw it up. i see you all with your mixtures of fancy shit. and well all i have is a bag of specialy ph buffered soil. and i used to have a case of this white stuff (someone told me its probably chalk) well i wasted that. and i was suposed to add it to the soil. i was wondering if i can take some dry wall chalk and cruble it into the soil  (i know i know, poor ass but i cant really ask my dad for a ride to homedepot... whats it for? oh nothing just some magic mushrooms LOL) heh. its too far to walk.)

what about cactus soil? can i mix some of that in? i have some of that also.

I would personally say take this time to read more and start over when you live on your own and can give it 100% of your attention.

But what do I know... I'm tripping off an unknown substance that came in a gel-cap. The marquis reagent test was brown to tan. Which matches almost NOTHING! The closest is MAYBE 2C-C. Either way, after the puking and almost full-blown synesthesia the body-tingles/rushes feel on par with good MDMA...

So yeah, you might not want to listen to anything I have to say, kuz I might just be insane.

The chalk was probably meant to lower the pH, and if this was a grow kit, then it was probably meant to be used. I don't know if it would be nescessary or not however, since I have no idea the relative pH of your casing material.

>dry wall chalk

Dry wall chalk is (ironically) not made of chalk(=calcium carbonate) nowadays.
