You're in Canada, home of the Silver Maple Leaf by the Royal Canadian Mint, the finest bullion coin.

I just posted a link to a page reviewing all the major sellers, it shouldnt be hard.

The best place to get silver is 2001, then quickly come here, sell it, and make some more round trips.

Speaking of the RCM...

Quote:

"We have sold everything we can produce in silver and have demand for at least twice that volume," said David Madge, head of bullion sales at the Royal Canadian Mint, which produces the silver Maple Leaf coin. Silver coin sales at the US Mint and the Austrian Mint also hit record levels in January.

American Silver Eagles are ubiquitous. While 'technically' not as fine, functionally they are about the same.

You can't go wrong with them.

its not hindsight when many people in this forum were calling for the massive rise to come in gold and silver years ago. it's not hindsight when you call it out beforehand :crazy2:

I have this mountain of silver that I wouldnt have if I hadn't gotten into and out of gold first. This mountain was bought when silver was about $16 and now its like, wut, $32?

Hindsight is pretty awesome if you planned ahead and saw your plans come to fruitation exactly like you knew it would.

There were shroomerites alerting people to gold and silver before there were people protesting it. Back when gold was about 1/2 it was now and silver was about 1/3 of what is is now.

We had the foresight to be able to have this hindsight, and I guess this sums up how we feel about that:

You're gonna be kicking yourself in a couple years.

Six years ago my father said he was selling virtually ALL of his gold coins and I tried my damndest to talk him out of it but he did it and lived to regret it just a few years later when precious metals took off.

Now he's buying in again but if he'd have just held onto what he had.. Oh well.

We haven't seen the end of this bull market in precious metals. Not by a long shot. Not when governments are printing all this money. It's a no-brainer!

I guess I'm wondering what you guys think about the silver market or the precious metals market in general? Should I liquidate now, or keep on investing in it? The risk of investing more money into silver is marginal unless I take into account the realized gain.

Thoughts and opinions welcome.

Keep buying on the dips.

Silver ain't going nowhere but up for the forseeable future as governments try to get out of their massive debts by money printing. Inflation is baked into the cake and coming on the back end of this year.

I bought 12 ounces of silver when spot was 26. Last night I bought another 13 ounces and 1/10th ounce of gold. I would buy now if I were you. You could wait for a possible correction later this week or you could just get in. 35 dollar silver is still cheap.

What are your thoughts on silver rounds versus coins like the silver eagles?

Silver rounds, in some circumstances, may be harder to unload. You must keep your selling strategies in mind when deciding between them. If you plan to sell to the smelter, it would be utter madness to get Eagles or Maples with their higher premiums. If you plan to sell to a coin shop, Maples and Eagles are great. If you plan to sell to individuals (like eBay) then especially your particular plates and rounds may happen to catch someones fancy and you may get profits dwarfing any other selling method.

Me, I'm heaviest on another class of silver entirely, one I can highly recommend to get into.

JUNK SILVER

In the case of the USA, old 900 pure dollar currency (dollars, quarters etc) without numismatic value. US $1.40, any way you make change in 90% silver, is 1 troy ounce of silver.

Why am I into junk silver despite having a position large enough to make a good stack of 100oz/1kg bars?

The wikipedia article on junk silver words it perfectly:

Quote:

Junk-silver coins may be a desirable method of investing in silver for several reasons:

Low premiums
Coins can often be purchased for little or no premium over the spot price of silver, particularly during periods of economic stability.
Legal tender
Coins remain legal tender and maintain their face value regardless of the price of silver.
Recognition
Coins are familiar and less likely to have their value disputed than silver rounds or bars.
Divisibility
Coins can be easily spent or traded in small amounts. In contrast, minted silver bullion is rarely smaller than a troy ounce, while minted gold bullion (and other precious metals) is highly valued in even small amounts, like the American Gold Eagle coins.

For these reasons, junk silver is popular among survivalists. In the event of a crisis or catastrophe during which traditional currency collapses, it is speculated that silver coins could provide a viable alternative, temporarily or indefinitely, while fiat currency, which is not backed by precious metals or other commodities, has no inherent value and can be subject to extreme inflation, even hyperinflation, similar to Weimar Germany and, more recently, Zimbabwe. Proponents of junk silver and other precious metals adhere to the principle that, while fiat currencies have historically been subject to hyperinflation, precious metals will always have inherent value and can act as a medium of financial exchange when fiat currencies are obsolete.

Low price and divisibility are a killer combination.

My main "currency" is the silver Dutch Gulden from the Juliana era:

Crossection: 25,0 mm
Thickness: 1,8 mm
Gross weight: 6,50 gram
Purity: 72% (alloyed with nickel, extremely durable)
Net silver weight: 4,68 gram

10 of these coins make 1.5 troy ounce so currently 1 such coin represents a value of $5. If you have 10 coins minted (like eagles), expect to pay $5 on top of the silver price just in minting cost. Nothing like that with junk silver, it was state minted long ago (like American, Canadian, UK, Australian etc junk silver) so theres no minting cost involved. If the currency ever does collapse, junk silver from your own nation makes extremely versatile bartering goods - people know what it is, know it is genuine and know it has value.

In most nations that have junk silver, it is the cheapest form you can get silver in, cheaper than 1oz bullion coins, rounds or bars. And it IS in fact a bullion coin: a round with a precise amount of silver minted by a national mint, assuring its content.

Do you think Gadhafi could have liquidated some of his holdings to China for the purposed militia here?

I also heard a report calling for a freeze of his assets, but don't remember where.

The world is going to shit in a hand basket!
