Why Iraq?
    #1395663 - 03/20/03 02:17 PM (21 years, 14 days ago)

What is the official line on why we're attacking Iraq for disobeying UN regulations, and giving Isreal, a country which has done the same, billions?

Careful, you'll be branded an anti-semite by the neocons.

Is the official line from the US 'for disobeying UN regulations?'

I thought the USA didn't give a flying fuck about the UN, and even sort of wants to withdraw from it.

In any case, invading Iraq in defiance of the UN consensus sure undermines the US claim to be respectful of it's regs...

Oh, wait, that actually makes sense, in the sense that the US makes no sense in it's foreign policy lately...(which lays naked the lie)

Oh, never mind...

There must really be something to this question. No pro-war poster has responded.

Therefore I say you can't justify going into Iraq just because they disobeyed UN resolutions since Isreal does the same.

They served us with really lousy reasons for this war. Maybe that's why only about 10% of the world population supports it.

You'd think they'd have some excuse for ignoring Isreal and not Iraq though.

Yea, at least something like: "God gave the land to Israel, they have every right to ignore UN demands." or "Israel needs WMD to protect itself from neighbouring pagans."

Because Isreal is not a threat to us (percieved or otherwise).

So you admit that Iraq is not a threat?

I would say that Iraq is not yet a direct threat to the USA unless they arm others.

I agree with z@Z on this. No direct threat, but I certainly think there is/was a potential for them to be a threat by arming terrorist orgs. However Iraq is not the only nation which hates the US and has potential to arm a terrorist org. This is the main reason why I believe that the gov't has ulterior motives in the war. Whatever they may be, I do not know.

You could say the same thing about your own country, and it would be more accurate.
