With a Day of Rage planned in Algeria today, and autocrats across the region nervously planning their escape route, which countries do you think will soon fall to the will of their people?
Syria - last time they tried he killed a town of 40,000 Algeria - List of Algerian massacres of the 1990s Saudia Arabia - the king is about to die Yemen - the poorest country in the region with the youngest population Jordan - the king just replace the government and increased gasoline subsidies Iran - they've had protests before but they were repressed

What makes you think Egypt has fallen to the "will of the people"? So far the only people being represented are those in the mob in Cairo.
I wouldn't be getting all misty-eyed about this. Nothing that has occurred there has even the faintest whiff of democratic process. A mob with pitchforks is not in any way democratic.

in your poll, are you differentiating between paid actors staging demonstrations, and genuine will of the people? that distinction seems to go unnoticed quite often.

The only people paid to demonstrate in Egypt were the police.

It was the birth of democracy in France.

Yes, of course. The revolutionary purge of the middle class got very carried away very quickly and lasted for a long time. Its a vital lesson of history...if a revolution becomes tied to the letting of blood, the tendency is for the blood letting to continue indefinitely. France eventually got around to establishing a healthy democracy but for quite awhile it had an ugly one. Everyone seems to agree that Egypt needs to be very careful that its so far peaceful ousting of a tyrant doesn't get hijacked by the guillotine crowd.

You seem to be expressing the hope that this mob will not become the other mob you cited as the cradle of Democracy in France. I would posit that the revolution against The Revolution which encompassed the storming of the Bastille was the cradle of Democracy in France. The reaction to the Robespierres and DuFarges.
Egypt is on a knife edge.

From that article: "another 16% said it did not matter what kind of government is in place for a person in their situation."
I wonder if this sort of apathy is a global trend; what percentage of Americans would agree to that statement?

How so? I think democracy came about 100 years after Bastille and the Terror.
