US installed Saddam?
    #1394295 - 03/20/03 06:55 AM (15 years, 2 months ago)

alot of folks on this board like to trumpet that the United States installed saddam hussein into power... i've been looking about and reading, and it does seem as though saddam hussein came into power not via the US, but by cunningly and often violently outmanuvering political opponents.

Facts don't matter to the 'Hate and Blame America First' crowd.

To call humans 'rational beings' does injustice to the term, 'rational.'  Humans are capable of rational thought, but it is not their essence.  Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains.  Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.

What he (Evolving) said.

Never let facts stand in the way.
(OR.. if the facts don't confirm your stance, just make them up and repeat them over and over. Soon the rest of the libbies will buy into it as well)

You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity. What one person receives without working for another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for that my dear friend is the beginning of the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it. ~ Adrian Rogers

You are correct. Lord Morham posted several links in an excellent post several months ago pointing this out.

Hussein was not "installed" by the US, despite the brainwashed Chomskyites' boringly repetitious mantra that he was. He managed to seize power all on his own.

However, it is true that once he had seized power, he was considered by the US to be a stabilizing influence in the area, and a huge thorn in the side of Iran's fundamentalist regime. Since Iranians at that time were fond of kidnapping US citizens and holding them hostage, and chanting "death to America" in enormous demonstrations at the drop of a hat (or turban), it is not surprising the US government would view Hussein as a potentially useful ally.

If only they had had the ability to see the future, huh?
