Pan Subb Hunt....
    #1382156 - 03/16/03 08:00 PM (21 years, 17 days ago)

My friends parents left for a weak, and they own horses, so i decided there isnt much better a time to go check the premisis for pan subbs...

not surprisingly I came back empty handed, probably even to early to begin looking in the Washington State area...

Was wondering if anyone from the WA state crew have had luck, i am in bellingham....

There is a large shroom farm in Yelm washington with haystacks and compost heaps, buyt riding stables are a beeter bet. They do appear on manure but very rare here in the PNW in manure.

I was out this morning driving all around airport road and out by decker nurseries with no hay stacks or bails to be found, have the farmers gotten hip to people going after their haybails and just stopped putting them in sight from the road? I was out almost to fern ridge. I have read through all the articles on subbs, i just need someone who knows to maybe give me an idea of a better place to look

you have to know when to look . the best time to look is after we have had some warm weather in the 80s followed by rain . when it rains the temp drops and makes them start to fruit , so after it rains go out later that night or the following morning and you should have better luck if your looking in the right place's. Hope this help's .

ITs possible that they have moved the haystacks fromthe place where they are.

I went there by west 11th street and turned right all the way to the airport which is on the left side of the road.

Anyway the other choice is of course 99 west on the Eugen side of Corvalis.

exactly as described to get ther ein my article.

NOt sure abnout the road. I went out 11th avenue, then straight allthe way to where the road to the airport is which would be a left turn. Anyuway the road may have been green?

Not sure. But you would be facing the road to the airport and the right side of the road is the fields where they stack the hay there. They did for almost forty years so I am sure, unless you are growing something other than the hay oin Oregon in the willamette valley?

I do know they are still onthe runways of the old corvalis aiport and directions inthat paper are exact map to going there.

What are the fruiting temps for pan subs. What would you consider to be to cold at night. Im goin out right now to se whats around with all the spring rains. Its a beutiful spring like day. The local forcast has been 60's daytime and 40's at night. I feel it might be to cold still.

Well that is the temperature which I have found them at. In my neck of the woods they will be popping up right when the cooler temps roll around during the late fall and early winter.

What matters most is the rain and high humidity.

Try looking in some horse stables, where they collect all the maure and dump it.... thats the best place to look IMO.

They grow from january inthe PNW through May until the hot summer months which are dry. The haystack varieties are usually covered with a tapr all winter long and the tarps get blown off fromt the wind and spring rains and the spores aree attracted to that habitat.

The manured ones here int he pnw appear in the early fall months witht he fall rains right after the hot months are over.

mj

The taps make for good compost and the stacks are stacked so they have pockets. Be very careful climing on large haystacks. You can fall and be comletelly coverd and suffocate fromthe chemicals chemicals accumulating inthe hearted areas in the the co post
