I hate the way some u.s citerzens constantly use the word "Freedom" as though its a u.s comderty. Whats so free about america?that say europe does not have. How can your goverment call a war a war for freedom when there the attackers? How can you say the country was founded on freedom when its main industries back then were built on slavery? How can you still claim to be a free country with the patriot act in force? How does freedom relate to your goverments contiuing war on drugs(or self choice) Were is freedom in your health care system? Were is freedom in your imagration laws? were is this freedom you offer the world ? Is it in your goverments underhand world trade dealings?
Please tell me were this idear of freedom is?i cant quite see it..

I'm somewhat surprised by the number of people that claim to hate the U.S.
It's weird - I know a lot of foreigners who became citizens of the U.S. after jumping through a crazy number of hoops to do so - and they tend to really appreciate this country.
Then I meet a lot of spoiled brats who have grown up here and do nothing but complain all the time about how shitty of a place this country is. It makes me wonder why they are so unhappy. I just mark it up to inexperience and a lack of seeing the bigger picture.

If you're talking about foreigners being commonly disgusted by america, it's usually the american culture that they don't like. Comparing america's to other foreigners i've met, americans do actually seem arrogant to me...not all, but enough to notice. Then theres the health thing...
I just keep saying that I may have been born here, but I'm a foreigner.
Only take this post of mine lightly. Sorry if this post is completely off.

Nevertheless, hatred of America still runs strong as it has for decades.

I'm Australian, and i do hate america in some ways, there are some parts i love, and most americans i've met at uni are very friendly and we get along great.
What i really hate about america can be summed up by how much American culture and values permeate to the rest of the world. I'm guessing it wouldn't happen as much in Europe as it does in Australia, but we cop alot of american values simply because we speak (roughly) the same language. Sometimes it feels like because of the insane ammount of media/tv shows/movies/journalism/business' coming from america, that the values americans have are forced onto others, when you think about it, the first americans were really just a bunch of nutjob religious prudes, and i'm really not a fan of conservatives. (i mean the fact that you can't have genitals or say fuck on tv over there boggles my mind).
But then there's the good stuff and the good people, I love the fact that America really seems to have a good "community spirit" or whatever you want to call it, that there are always social events on, there's always huge sports events on, i mean you guys even go to university (or college :P) football games in huge crowds, that's awesome, i wish we did that here.
Oh and i wish you guys would just adopt the metric system already, you're like the last nation on earth and it's really irratating having to convert ounces and farenheit into S.I. units. :P

Now that you mention it this really pisses me off about America and it's not as if it hasn't cost you millions of dollars from NASA bugger-ups and the like. Just join the fucking rest of the world that chose a simple deca-based(10's if you fucks didn't understand) measurement system, why the fuck would you say "ya know, I've seen this simple and common metric system and it's system and tens, but I prefer my system of 3's,6's and 12's as well as any other bazaar fucking numbers which we may have in our backwards measurement system." why would you say that to the world?
Also Americans who revive 6 year old threads about fucking stupid wars that never should have happened with irrelevant apologism for what exactly I do not understand, they really piss me off. I'm on the fence about wide sectors of America though.

I use the metric system. You are free to use whatever system you want. Though I did have to buy my tape measure off of ebay...

well, it just seems weird i mean i'm finishing up an engineering course at uni, and the entire world uses S.I. units, everything is basically standardised, EXCEPT the U.S. and because the US is so massive and has a million textbooks out it just really makes things difficult when they needn't be.

Can we agree to hate America for that, cause ya know of all the things like the war on terror, Modern imperialism (if those aren't the same thing), FUCKING MARIJUANA LAWS!!!!!!!!, neo-liberal/conservativism and obnoxious american patriotism, I think the s(hit)tantard measurement system actually inconveniences me the most.

That is unique to the engineers I think. In science, american textbooks use SI (or cgs or natural units if they fit). It was JPL engineers that fucked up the mission mentioned above, iirc.

so you hate america for the same reasons you should hate most other countries including your own, those harsh marijuana laws with as many people being busted as in america, your nations involvement in the war on terror, you guys have floating elections, just anytime that they decide to hold one they toss out a date, seems it only give you enough time to keep reelecting the torries, you know, Harper's Conservative party, the party that's tried to strengthen drug laws in canada, the Canadian G.W. Bush
I guess you guys should consider looking at your own self inflated ego regarding patriotism/nationalism, your post shows it;s no different
did you know that americans have to learn 2 systems for measurement in school as opposed to just one, even when I was in school the metric system was taught

I said the refusal to adopt the metric system was worse than those things, or at least has inconvenienced me more.
