Hoping for a short war

No matter how you might feel about this war, I hope you'll join me in praying that it ends quickly. The longer it goes on, the more lives will be lost - both American and Iraqi.

Why would it be long?
-------------------- What if everything around you Isn't quite as it seems? What if all the world you think you know, Is an elaborate dream? And if you look at your reflection, Is it all you want it to be?

I don't think it'll last long. But in war there can be unforseen circumstances.

I think it's close to impossable. Give an example where it would last long.

There are many scenarios...
What if Saddam lauches scuds with chemical weapons at Israel? Israel retaliates, it turns into an all out holy war.
What if the Iraqis actually fight this time instead of surrendering in droves?
There might be bloody urban fighting in Baghdad with the Republican Guard. Iraqi civilians might resist occupation (not likely).
Anything can happen, but like I said, I don't think it will last very long.

"I hope you'll join me in praying that it ends quickly."
I don't pray, but I join you in wanting it to end quickly.

For someone to consider a "what if" scenario, that scenario must be plausible.
Your scenario is impossible, because Hussein has assured us for years he has no chemical weapons. Alex123 has assured us that even if there were chemical weapons, they are past their "use by" date, hence harmless.

-------------------- You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity. What one person receives without working for another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for that my dear friend is the beginning of the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it. ~ Adrian Rogers

i hope it gets locked into some kind of stalemate... i know it's probably not gonna happen though. i don't want to see alot of people die, but i don't want it to be quick and painless. we need a good long war so that maybe next time around, the american people won't be so willing to hastily send in the troops. that and it'll give bush less of a chance of being re-elected.
