Weak agnosticism is a lack of belief with an openness to being proven wrong.

Strong agnosticism is the belief that God is beyond knowing.

There's a lot of overlap between weak agnosticism and weak atheism obviously, I think it's "agnostic" if you're open to being proven wrong.

Pragmatic atheism is where it's at: I recognize that God's existence is unprovable but I live my life as if God does not exist.

I'm a strong agnostic because practically, it is the same: since I can't know, why try to figure it out?

Its an interesting point. I never said there was no possibility though, I just said im not going to believe it until its likely to be true.

That's totally what atheism is, though. :picard:

Atheism is commonly defined as the position that there are no deities. It can also mean the rejection of belief in the existence of deities. A broader definition is simply the absence of belief that any deities exist.

Well google says different, there is nothing in there about there being no possibility of a god existing, merely that one does not believe that there is one, it is possible to not believe in something but still believe it is possible.

I find the whole argument to be handicapped by the fact that, even among people attending the same church services, I don't think anybody hears what the other person means when they say "God."

Yeah atheism is based entirely on defining God, and then destroying that definition.  It's a philosophy generally held by smart people that don't ever leave their heads. Better than dumb people that don't leave their heads, but they could still do with a little heart every now and then

It's obvious that a supernatural being could not exist under natural laws. It's like saying water is never dry. At first glance it appears to mean something but it's actually nonsense.

IMO there's just a big disconnect between people who understand the distinction and people who don't, and a major lack of empathy on both sides.

Mmhm, for instance Richard Dawkins actually describes in The God Delusion an experience he had that I would consider a spiritual experience of being really deep in the moment, but to him that experience somehow confirms his view that there is no God.
