MIGRAINES - help meeeee
    #13920590 - 02/07/11 12:04 PM (13 years, 2 months ago)

Anyone here have migraines? Specifically these kind:

- it all starts with a subtle, yet very uncomfortable and unpleasant perception shift

- then, a blind spot forms in the center of vision

- followed by complete loss of peripheral vision, and loss of majority of linear vision

- as vision returns, sometimes the left side of my body starts going numb

- as feeling comes back, the victim is left with a painful light, sound, and pressure sensitive headache.

:feelsfuckingterribleman:

Do ANY of you brilliant people know how to PREVENT migraines, or have ANY IDEA what causes them?

My sister has permanent migraines, which sucks because shes a
genius and was about to start her doctorate when they
began.  No cure, she has to take oxys to not be in total pain
but she hates them so she just suffers....must be a shitty
life.

So uh.....my suggestion is tons of oxys.:awegroove:

Check with a doc, that doesn't sound like a "normal" migraine.

Might be cluster headaches, psychedelics generally help with those.

I've been treating my headaches with mushrooms for the past 8 months. It has worked wonders for me.

Take a very small dose (about .4-.5 grams works for me) when you feel one coming on.

Thanks for the advice y'all, i don't think they are cluster headaches, because they aren't like excruciatingly painful....

And unfortunately my day to day life style does not allow for often use of psychs,

Tattiana, what are the mental effects like from that small of a dose?

NO, Just NO. Those arnt cluster headaches, I dont think you understand exactly how painful cluster headaches are.

I heard a light dose of mushies taken just as you get that weird dissociative feeling and your peripheral goes, will stop it altogether. I get these painful migraines too, It :feelsbadman: And when I get one im done in for the day or at least 5 hours nothing to do but lament in my bed with all the lights turned off.

Have a doctor check your blood pressure...I have severe migraines that I developed about seven years ago. My doctor put me on propranalol to lower my blood pressure (although it wasn't clinically high) as a prophylactic against migraines, and it worked wonders. I still carry Relpax and Zomig to abort those that sneak through.

With that low of a dose you won't feel more than slightly mellow. The most I've gotten off of a dose that size was when I woke up one morning with a nasty headache and immediately ate .5g without having eaten anything yet. Even then everything was just a bit brighter.

My girlfriend suffers from the same exact thing you just wrote. She tried many meds...failed.

Some studies shows that mushroom can prevent cluster headaches I been telling her for a while to try taking like0.25 gs and see what happens. Perhaps u could try and tell me?

make sure to eat your vitamins, especially B12 complex. Also, try taking a very small dose of psilocybin if you are comfortable with that(0.5 grams like the someone else mentioned above).

I too get horrific migraines at times, along with visual disturbances(blue sparks, visual snow), even puking at the climax of my headache. it's been much more under control since I started eating better and taking my vitamins though. Also look up "TMJ".. could be something with your jaw. I hope this helps and good luck!

Its a stretch, but for a "natural" cure, I used to take Apple Cider vinegar for headaches.

I was skeptical at first, but I noticed results after a week or so.
I'd definitely recommend trying it- 8 oz of cold water and 2 Tbs of Apple Cider Vinegar- certainly couldn't hurt.

I don't think .5g will give you very strong effects, perhaps a bit of euphoria and increased creativity but I have heard that .5 is also plenty enough to counteract a migraine, I've never had them so I've never tried it but I've cetainly heard good things about it.

i sympathize with OP. as a child, i had incapacitating migraines regularly. there is nothing that can be done once they've become full-blown except find a quiet place, shut your blinds, put a pillow over your head and lay there with throbbing brain pain until you have the good fortune to fall mercifully beyond the wall of sleep. this usually doesn't happen until after you've puked your guts out, and the moment right after that happens, when you lift your head up from the toilet and look in the mirror with puke and drool hanging from your face, is always the peak in terms of that throbbing pain. but on the bright side, you learn through experience that once that point has passed it will slowly begin to get better from there.

as i've gotten older i get them with much less frequency. i chalk this up partially to the fact that statistically they tend to become less frequent after childhood and adolescence, but i also believe that a significant factor is that i've become very good at recognizing the warning signs and taking some sort of painkiller/removing myself from stimuli that i know triggers or exacerbates my migraines. i don't experience much of an "aura" as the majority of migraine sufferers do, but i still know the difference between a run-of-the-mill headache and the first stages of a migraine. they are quite distinct, and if i'm lucky enough to catch one early enough & be in a position to do what i need to do to have a chance of stopping it from developing into a full-blown migraine, i've found i can often nip it in the bud. but i still get them occasionally and it's a harsh reminder that i haven't come up with some perfect system or silver bullet, that i will most likely always suffer migraines at least once in a while, and it fucking sucks.

in my experience marijuana is highly unpredictable/variable in it's effect on a headache or migraine. there have been times when i've smoked as i felt a migraine coming on and it worked almost like magic. but on the other hand there have been times when smoking instantly flipped the pain switch into TURBO-TIME.

Oh gosh, you're actually lucky you get "auras" beforehand because there are medications out that are supposed to be dosed right when you start feeling that weird shift in perception. I was on a nasal spray called Immitrex for this purpose, but I didn't always pick up on the auras at the time, and once you're past a certain point it's very hard to find a medication that will actually stop a migraine. I've heard shrooms are good, but I've never taken then for this purpose and I can't testify to their effectiveness with migraines in general.

The only bit of advice I can give you is to take an OTC migraine medicine with caffeine until you can get in to see a neurologist. I'm sure your GP would precribe immitrex or other migraine meds - I've always just been referred to neurologists, though. And they are certainly not without side effects :/.

Mj will make me more likely to be able to sleep a migraine off, but it doesn't get rid of the pain for me.

Exactly what I was thinking being a 4 almost 5 year chronic sufferer myself of chronic clusters ....  The vision is only the beginning with those things... Fortunately I have been able to use mushies weekly to decrease the amount of attacks tremendously (I get maybe 2 attacks a week versus the 8 I had a day).

OP make sure you have been to a doctor and what not... it could be something more serious, seriously. Imitrex works for quite a few people if you cant use psych's... but honestly dont think your going to feel any better using that shit, yea your headaches are gone but now you have a whole list of other fucked up side effects. At least the mushies are enjoyable without fucked up side effects.

I get those too and man do they suck... it's like impossible to do anything remotely productive.  Thankfully pain meds work.  I can feel right when they are coming on so I pop some meds--excedrin migraine for example-- and it stops them.

Mine too.  I have found that low doses of shrooms abort migraines.  I have done it multiple times and it works quite well.
