would it be ok to coldshock/dunk your cakes in a cooler with ice instead of the fridge? or would that get too cold?

as long as you really sterilize that cooler i dont see why not. the factor at hand here is to "coldshock" them with water thats clean.. so i would say get some distilled water and clean that cooler out and have fun.. i have cold shock with plain tap water and have had some nice results.

ice is unnecessary and wouldn't give you any benefits. it could be detrimental. a temperature drop of about ten degrees is quite enough.

maybe i should have been more clear in my origonal statement....

what i meant was, instead of using the fridge, put the cakes in a cooler of ice....not directly on the ice, but in a large pot or something similar to that which you would stick in the fridge. the only thing different from your regular cold shock in what im asking is the source of the cold :grin:

why not use a refridgerator?

or try getting a cooler, load some ice in the bottom, then put a towel over the ice so that it's a few layers of fabric thick. then put the casing ontop of that.

just thinking of ways to keep this hobby of mine not so out in the open, thats all.

i havent yet tryed casings, as this is only the second grow...gonna stick with the cakes till i get a good feel of whats going on :grin:

wrestler, i think your idea would work fine. it doesnt really matter the source of the cold. putting them in a cooler sounds like a good idea to me, i wouldnt let the cakes touch the ice directly though.

a good stealth cold shocking method  :grin:

cool, well i will go ahead and try it out.....im sure it would work just fine, the only reason i was worried was that maybe the cooler of ice might get colder than the fridge, and maybe get them too cold. ill be sure to let you guys know how it works out for me...i just have a hard time putting something like that right next to the left overs. i mean, what if one of my stoned friends gets the munchies and think they might want to take a bite or two :grin:

When my friend used to do cakes, that's exactly how he cold-shocked and dunked them. Worked for him...
