Poll: How long will the war last?
    #1389678 - 03/19/03 02:01 AM (13 years, 8 months ago)

How long will the war last?

2-3 days, they're gonna roll over 'em

1-2 weeks, due to light resistance and sand storms

>3 weeks, encounter fierce resistance and turns into a bloody 'nam

I tend to expect the air raids to last a couple weeks before any armour rolls in to capture cities. However, I've read about a tactic that may be employed, the Blitz esentually, but it'll be called "shock and awe" instead of the blitz. No telling how long it'll take with these new tactics.

i don't think it'll be as quick as everyone says but who knows really. Just think if he had a nuke. Things would change.

from what i've been hearing/reading the ground forces are pretty much going to roll right on in there after the bombs. i don't think bush wants to wait. they must be pretty confident.

I would say that something is seriously wrong if the war itself is not over within a week. The Iraqi army is FAPP a skeleton crew; and most of the time will be spent driving the tanks to Baghdad with little or no enemy fire.

The issue is not so much the war itself but rather the dangerous legal precedents that Shrub has established. Throughout the diplomatic phase, Shrub addressed the UN as if he were demanding givebacks from a labour union. UNR-1441 unfortunately did not define the conditions of compliance and enforcement, which created an opportunity for Shrub to employ another classical corporate anti-labour manoeuvre(sp): moving the goal posts (ie, allowing the employer to subjectively determine preformance of job duties so as to keep the workforce under threat of action for gross malfeasence). You and your country dont have any more legal rights to life/liberty/property than your job in the face of massive restructuring; and this time its not just your job thats on the line. And if the American ppl think that they will be excluded from this process, they are sadly mistaken.

While it certainly comes as no surprise that this is how corporations would rule the world, it must come as a shock to see a living example of it for the first time since Hitler and Stalin. Every human being in the world can no longer avoid the questions as to whether or not one wants to live in a world absent the rule of law; and if the answer is "no", whether or not one is willing to take the appropriate actions. Remember that its impossible to be a "law-abiding citizen" when the rule of law does not apply, which is now the case.

That was NOT our method in the Gulf war or in the war on Serbia. I'm going on the assumption that this invasion will be similar to other invasions in recent history. If it is, lets expect about a month of air raids and then an armoured ground assult. I shortened my prediction of air raids to 2 weeks because of the "shock and awe" massive air assult which I expect to speed up things quite a bit.

I could be completely wrong and on the time estimates I almost certainly am. I think though, that we should look at other recent invasions if we want a rough guide of how this will proceed.

being dug into a city is different from the last war. I would not consider it a failure if the objective is completed, to oust saddam from power.

I predict if it goes over a week the saddam lovers will say it's a dismal failure.

here's how i think it's gonna go down...

first thing, they're gonna drop alot of bombs. any iraqi troops or military equipment out in the open will get blown up. this will take a couple days.

hussien's military will be dug in at baghdad, but the capital will not be immediately invaded.

US forces will completely surround baghdad, effectively cutting it off from the rest of the country. hussien's government will by this time only be in control of one major city and none of the countryside. this may take a week or so.

while baghdad is under siege, civilians and surrendering\defecting iraqi troops will be welcomed to leave the city. US special forces will go into baghdad looking for saddam. eventually, they'll find him or kill him or drive him from iraq. or his own people will. who knows how long this will take.

that's if it all goes well.

wait... i forgot steps 4 and 5.

4. islamic militants around the world are infuriated and carry out larger and more numberous attacks against the united states.

5. bush administration further restricts civil liberties as part of the 'war on terror'.

I imagine it'll be fiercer than Desert Storm 1, since Saddam, knowing his days are numbered, will be more likely to use chemical and biological weapons this time.

yeah, i know this. but i've heard that the interval between the initial "shock & awe" and the ground troops moving in will be much shorter this time. of course it makes sense to soften them up with a long bombing campaign, but i think bush really wants to get ground troops in there...even if it means more casualties for american forces
