Cake to cake transfers don't work.

Filtered gas exchange is required for all colonizing substrates.
In brown rice flour cakes, the dry vermiculite barrier is the gas exchange filter.

Yeah, but for my cakes... there won't be a dry verm layer as obviously it will prevent the mycelium dropped on it from colonizing the substrate below. I have lids with polyfill and self-sealing silicone inoculation points, and you're saying this still won't work? I've heard of people having success with cake to cake transfers, I mean in theory shouldn't it work the same exact way as dropping an agar wedge in there? That doesn't work for BRF either?

You didn't mention you'll not be applying the dry vermiculite barrier.
In that case you will definitely need a means of gas exchange to your brown rice flour cakes.

Nobodies saying you can't do a cake to cake transfer just that they generally don't work.
If I was to be all compulsive about doing a cake to cake transfer, I'd drop a piece of colonized brown rice flour cake onto agar to have the option of transferring clean mycelium away from contaminates.

Unless you'r just looking to research, it's bad advice to just do something that's been proven more times then not to fail then to try mostly unproven methods in defiance of more aware and seasoned cultivators.

I'm fully aware of the transferring of mycelium from a brown rice flour cake using water as the mycelial transfer medium.

Nowhere in the OP was anything mentioned of a mycelial transfer using water as the mycleial transfer medium.
Nor was there any mention of the non utilization of a vermiculite barrier.

So i stand by my words that it would never be a good idea to transfer a piece of a cake onto another cake, like a grain to grain transfer.
Just like how the OP implies in in his original post.

A better way to achieve a mycelial transfer using water as your transfer medium is agar's "GRAIN LC".

Still not clear on what exactly it is that you did.  Did you cut away a piece of colonized cake away and transfer the piece of colonized cake onto a freshly sterilized receiving cake or did you transfer the mycleium from the mother cake into receiving jars using sterile water and syringes as your transfer medium?

Very cool and interesting, indeed.  I'm glad this is working so far.  Keep up the good work.  I apologize for sounding so damning.

You're not out of the woods yet.  Give them jars another 3-4 more days to come back contaminate free before calling your procedure 100% viable.  5 days is up to how long any invader spore present in your substrate or mother spawn'll take to germinate and rear it's ugly head.
