Cronies and friends of Barry and health waivers, oh my
    #13866499 - 01/28/11 03:02 PM (13 years, 3 months ago)

This has now passed the point of ridiculous.

Quote:

Yesterday, the Deparment of Health and Human Services announced it had granted more than 500 new waivers to Obamacare's requirement that health plans have annual limits of no less than $750,000. This annual limit requirement climbs to $1.25 million next year and then to $2 million.

The reason these exemptions from the law are needed is that Obamacare forces all health insurance consumers to over-insure themselves and pay high premiums as a result. Without the waivers, many companies, non-profits and unions would simply drop their health plans. As of 2014, the waivers will no longer be available -- at least, that's the way the law is written.

It is worth noting that there are 166 union benefits funds now exempted from this requirement, which account for about 40 percent of the exempted workers.

Union workers do not account for 40% of all workers but get 40% of the waivers.  One of those unions that got a waiver also pushed heavily in support of the law:

Quote:

The irony would be humorous if it weren’t so sad: The United Federation of Teachers, the New York City branch of the American Federation of Teachers, which pushed ardently for ObamaCare has now requested – and received – a waiver from its mandates.

The UFT is a member of New York State United Teachers (NYSUT).  In September 2009, the NYSUT’s website published “Health care reform: facts vs. myths.” Here’s an excerpt:

Quote:

* Myth: Health care reform will force you out of your current insurance plan or force you to change doctors.
    * Fact: You can keep your existing insurance; reform will expand your medical options, not eliminate them.

ObamaCare was such a great idea at the time - the AFT gave hundreds of thousands of dollars to Healthcare for America Now, the leading organization pushing for the government takeover of health care.

It was announced Thursday that the UFT has requested and received an Obamacare-waiver after it discovered their members would end up losing their health insurance plans.  Uh oh.

Kathleen Sibelius has sole discretion to grant waivers to save favored entities from the burden of its requirements.

Quote:

The Obama administration said Thursday that its top health official will "exercise her discretion" in enforcing a new health-law requirement, a move that could help McDonald's Corp. and other employers from disrupting their health-care policies for hourly workers.

Over 700 entities have now gotten waivers:

Quote:

As of today, a total of 733 waivers have been granted for 2011.  Key facts about annual limits waivers:

Let's recap what we have here

1.  A requirement that interferes in free competition for jobs and employees.
2.  A requirement that vastly increases costs.
3.  A requirement that causes employers to drop health coverage.
4.  A requirement that numerous employers are seeking exemption from.
5.  A requirement that can be voided at the sole discretion of an unelected bureaucrat.
6.  A requirement that is being voided for a disproportionately select population.
7.  That disproportionately select population happens to be constituted of entities that argued for the law and also happen to disproportionately support the:

Yes. It is quite retarded. Don't even know what to say, other than repeal.

It would appear you fail to understand the difference between purchasing insurance from a for-profit corporation, and making contributions to a health and welfare fund organized by a union.  They're not the same thing(or even close), yet both can be called "health plans".

Nice anti-union rant though.  Too bad it doesn't hold muster.  It's hilarious how Dolecare and Romneycare suddenly became Obamacare and you guys all hate it now.  Republicans were for it before they were against it.

Dolecare?  What the fuck is that?  Not that it is any more relevant than Dole.  Romneycare?  He was governor but the legislature wrote the law.  How's that fucking disaster working out?  Not well.

There was no provision in the law that allowed union funds to have fewer requirements than private funds.  That would be unconstitutional.  (OOPS about thatsie).  Further, unions weren't the only entities receiving waivers but they were disproportionately getting them so your point is, as fucking usual, irrelevant.  My point is not that unions got any waivers, just that friends of Barry (unions) got more waivers and that they were supporters of this law.  If they love the law so much how come they are chugging choad to be exempted from it?  One law for me and one law for thee?

One other thing about this nonsense.  There actually is a huge difference between purchasing private insurance and having your wages garnisheed to participate in a plan you may well have no desire to be a part of.  Maybe even you can see it.
