Is there any hope for change? (no pun intended)
    #13860682 - 01/27/11 03:30 PM (13 years, 3 months ago)

I can't seem to find one positive thing about the direction our country (United States) has been going for the past 50 or so years. It seems that every year political and corporate bonds get tighter and the government's relationship with the people gets thinner and less genuine. There are so many problems it's hard to blame it on one thing.

Basically what I want to know is:

Do you think the United States is fucked long-term?

I am far more concerned about the increasing number of utterly useless human beings whining about their lot in life and how I should fix it than I am about innovative corporations that manufacture the things we need to live a life of ease unprecedented outside of palaces.

I think the People can still take control back... the overwhelming support for Obama was based upon his deceitful 'promise of change'.  When his lie became apparent, a large portion of his supporters switched over to tea party candidates.  Some of them may be a bit wacky, but they are certainly a change from the spenders we have been electing.  Time will tell...

I know that BP gives a ton of money away to alternative energy research.  I got some of this money to do research with solar cell technology back in the early 90's with no strings attached.  I also received a research grant from DuPont when I was working in an explosives research lab, though in this case, DuPont got some nice data in return.

I'm not sure that any amount of charity could redeem DuPont for knowingly poisoning millions of people on multiple occasions and then scrambling to cover it up.

Well it apparently convinced Seuss...

mission accomplished.

It's the classical two faced mantra of; maintain a facade of charitable exterior while committing atrocities behind the curtain.

I don't give two shits about their charitable acts.  If you want charity get a tin cup.  I'm talking about the fact that they are responsible for our tremendously leisurely existence.  Mom and pop shops don't make cheap refrigerators or MRI machines.  Shit happens.  We get one hell of a good deal from the corporations.  If you don't think so try doing without, phonies.

Does a leisurely existence really translate to a meaningful one?

Does starving and living in misery and dying at 28?

Your entire question is inane.  There is no meaning to life.

Would it have more meaning if you had to gather your own food every day, shit in the woods and do without medicine?

I'd probably appreciate my life more.

I've survival camped for a month and I had never felt more liberated or good about myself in general.

I really wish I could share that experience with you.

No.  I've been uncomfortable enough times in my years that I do not seek it.  Misery is for schmucks.  I never needed it for my self esteem, either. My self esteem has always been pretty strong.  Gods are like that.

Under the current political climate there is no hope for change, we're fucked, and resistance is futile.

The only way I can see any change happening is if campaign contributions are limited to perhaps a max of 1000 US dollars. PAC's and lobbyists would then be pointless, and our elected officials would not be beholding to their benefactors, but to us the citizenry of this country. Until such happens you've been outbid, and the lying money whores in washington on both sides would gladly walk over your body, using it as a floor mat so they could grovel at the feet of, and beg for the opportunity to lick Goldman's sack.
