pyropuppys stealth monotub tek
Materials needed:

Tub Micro-pore Tape Hot Glue LED Christmas Lights

Tools Needed: Drill Drill Bit (the same size as the LED lights) Drill Bit (1/2 inch) Hot Glue Gun
Section One: Lighting
I used a string of 25 lights for 4 tubs, 4 lights per tub and 3 left out. If you can find a shorter string of lights then you don’t have to make 4 tubs. If you want to have less tubs you can use all 25 lights on one tub if you want.
Step 1 Figure out how many holes you need to make on the lid and mark them evenly. ( I made large marks so it is easier for you to see, your marks don’t need to be that large.)

Step 2 Drill holes using the drill bit that is the same size as the LED lights.

Step 3 Insert LED lights into holes.

Step 4 Use hot glue to glue the lights into the lid.
Step 5 (optional) If you want the tubs to have a stealthy look you can paint the whole lids black once you are done installing the lights.
Section 2: The Tubs
I use Rubbermaid tubs that are 18"x12"x12" in the darkest colour i can find (that way light wont escape)
Step 1 Mark 6 even holes on each of the long side of the tubs 4.75" from the bottom and 3 holes on the short sides 4.75" from the bottom. These will be the holes the co2 escapes from.

Step 2 Mark 6 even holes on each of the long sides about 1.5" from the top and 3 holes on each short side 1.5" from the top.

Step 3 Drill all marked holes with the ½” drill bit.

Step 4 Cover all holes with a layer of micro-pore tape.

(optional) Then with a layer of electrical tape.

(the electrical tape will block the light and the FAE during colonization) After doing some tests i found that the electrical tape stuck to well to the micropore tape so i just didn't bother with the electrical tape.
Section 3: Filling The Tubs
Step 1 Mix in the sub of your choice with the spawn of your choice.
Step 2 Lay a black garbage bag over top of the tub and put the lid on. ( The garbage bag will keep out any light from the LED's if you are not ready to fruit all your tubs at once.)
Step 3 Lay back and wait for your tubs to take off.
Section 4: fruiting Once the tubs are 100% ready to fruit you can take the garbage bag off as well as the electrical tape(now is a good time to turn on the LED lights if you haven’t already)
The tubs should fruit well due to FAE and light triggers. If you feel a dunk or a cold shock is needed I’m sure you will have no problem doing it.

I hope this Tek will help someone grow mushrooms out of sight i know it helps me. If you have any questions feel free to stop by #CULTIVATION
EDIT: electrical tape is not mandatory for colonization

that tub has the holes in the lid rather than on the side but the risk of contams falling in are not worth it.

I really like you're tek! I might have to do something along these lines as I'm probably moving back into an apartment within the next few months and this seems like it would work very well!
How well does this setup do for moving around the tubs or cleaning? with the lights hot glued in, it might be slightly troublesome with that, otherwise, for out of site growing, this looks perfect!
im' just surprised those lights do so good :-)
-------------------- We think we have freedom, but we're all just mice in a maze....
FYI: I stole all my pix off google! F+ PORN! Here is a shit-ton of porn by yours truly!
I have FINALLY written up a couple teks as to how SHP has done things in the past. DISCLAIMER: This is not for the newbie to mycology, and not going to work for everyone! This is simply what works for one person when other teks and methods have failed miserably!
~~~~~How SHP does their unconventional WBS Prep!! (NO DRY METHOD)~~~~
~~~~~SHP's highly disputed method of doing ALL their work outside of a flow hood or a Still air box!~~~~~
~~~~~Troubles harvesting the side and bottom pins in your mono? Learn how!! Dunking included ;-)~~~~~
The lids are all stuck together. but the tub's are free to go wherever they want to.
i was happy with how well the lights did as well. Nothing like after christmas sales to pick up lights cheap.
This is wicked cool, but are the lights the right color temperature? I'd kinda like to do an LED monotub with the right spectrum of light in it but don't know how well normal LED's will go against the high humidity and condensation inside the tub..
the light is at the blueish range and seems to work out alright.
Sorry to bump an old thread but,
This looks like a great design for me but I have a couple ?'s
How much light comes out of the micro pore tape? If its a lot could I not put holes on one side (stealth reasons)
Would casing with verm make sure I dont have any humidity problems?
And lastly how should I make sure it get FAE, maybe just fan it a couple times a day?
Thanks!
the post is 5 years old and the guy that posted it hasn't been seen in over 3 years. check for something more recent to get better results.
but to answer your question, if you put water in and the tub is damn near sealed you don't have to do anything to keep humidity up cuz the water can't get out.
