perlite as substrate and more...

Hey a friend of mine has some jars going. Due to the fact that there is no verm in his area, he decides to simply substitute verm with perlite. The were innoculated 8 days ago, and show no sign of growth. He did everything right. DO you think they will grow? One more ?: Is there a way to make a spore syringe out of dry shrooms?

they may grow, but perlite and vermiculite are used for the opposite reasons. vermiculite is used to hold moisture while perlite is used to allow moisture to leave more easily. so they are not really interchangeable. of course, perlite will hold some moisture and there have been successful experiments using perlite alone as a casing layer. i'd wait and see.
