Or do nuclear weapons prevent this completely?
I'd say yes because as soon as any super power gets remotely close to invading another they are just going to be threatening to press the button. I don't even see how one would begin.
However you could make the case that because everyone has nukes and no country wants to blow up the whole world nuclear weapons are pretty much obselete.
What say you?

I thought Super-Man took all the nuclear weapons in the world and sent them to the Sun!

lol What kind of question is this? Haven't we been in a war for the last 9 or so years?
What about the War on Drugs?
War is war. It fuckin' sucks regardless of it's size or end goal.

Check this out: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/712966.stm
START project is to link control of all nuclear weapons and defense and give it's control to the US government.
Iran, Pakistan, India, Israel, China, North Korea still posess nuclear weapons and don't like the US too well.
When Chinese officials will stop being ''polite'' with the rest of the world, they will officially invade the countries they have been influencing for the last years... Now what scares the shit out of me... is how the west will answer, that my friend... could be bloody.

I think with the advent of tactical strikes LARGE wars became basically obsolete.

At some point somebody will run out of something that someone else has and they will deem it necessary to use some.

-------------------- "Have you ever seen what happens when a grenade goes off in a school? Do you really know what you’re doing when you order shock and awe? Are you prepared to kneel beside a dying soldier and tell him why he went to Iraq, or why he went to any war?" "The things that are done in the name of the shareholder are, to me, as terrifying as the things that are done—dare I say it—in the name of God. Montesquieu said, "There have never been so many civil wars as in the Kingdom of God." And I begin to feel that’s true.
