gap between casing and container causing big problems
    #1381498 - 03/16/03 02:00 PM (21 years, 18 days ago)

Ok so when the casing pulls away from the sides a bit, that little gap forms..
I got the sides and bottoms blocked off, so it doesnt pin, But light got into the gap and i can see little pins growing down in there.

Theyre not accessible to be pulled, nor can I apply more casing without damaging the pins near the edges, what Should I do? Take the casing out of its container? I dont know how the hell I would do this without wrecking it. I dont want those pins in there to rot and contaminate...

Please, any advice would be cool.

Told you dont know what you are talking about light will reflect off the sides of the container and the pins will grow which ever way they want. as for a solution my friend has the same problem and looking for a solution him self. He was thinking of using twessers to pull them out but he will wait to see what happens.

A screwdriver, knife ...or handle of a toothbrush can be used pluck them and sweep them up to the surface of the casing.

if you cover them properly on the sides with a non reflective material and place a strong light source directly above the side that is pinning for a few hours the pins should change course and continue to grow upwards. I have seen mushrooms grow 3/4 underground and mature with only the cap sticking an inch out of the casing. Very strange, and I find that it happens more due to low casing RH rather than sub-surface light. Make sure the surface is moist and sift if it appears hard or clumpy. Should fix your probs.

tweesers work well.

leave them be for now, once you harvest the majority, pick them as well.

They usually make surface and create nice shrooms anyways.

just make sure that when you pick them that you get all the left=over stems.

yes, i have seen them grow up and well above the surface. a careful pull/twist and they will come off at the base = no problems.
