Preventing Rusty Lids
    #1379797 - 03/16/03 03:22 AM (21 years, 18 days ago)

A guy on the street wants to figure out a way to prevent jar lids from rusting once holes are punched through them. Would spraying them with tremclad or some other spraypaint work and hold up to PC'ing?

Any type metal primer or rust preventing paint will stop the rust. When you drill holes in new lids, just dab a little around the hole. Sounds like a pita, but it isnt & only takes a moment.

Rust wont hurt, and if you feel that the lid is just about to give away because it is just too rusted, buy some new lids, probably cheaper tahn buying the paint or what not

because a simple question was asked and answered here, to the benefit of all. your answer was along the lines of  'don't bother, i can't be bothered, so neither should you'.

also, i saw you grrrring someone recently who asked a common question. one good turn deserves another.

no further offence intended, just a little bristling and teeth-baring between shroomerites. be nice

not to be drawn into a fray, but it seems to me that ED's answer was quite practical.

first, he said the rust won't hurt so why worry about it.

then he said if it gets so bad that the lids are breaking, why not save time and money by buying new lids instead of going to the time and expense of doing something else. lids are cheap. it's plain cost vs. benefit. if it takes more time/money than it's worth, it doesn't make sense. imho.

Or you can not bother with rust at all and get plastic lids
