Read about chaos theory. It makes too much sense to me.

Out of the chaotic system of our universe comes order. The more randomness involved, the more order is produced.

Thus life exists in a storm of meaningless random events.

I am only a grain of sand. Hopelessly unimportant in The Big Picture. Yet my existence (not my "life") means something to me.

When all is said and done, will the universe really care if I die tomorrow or 60 years from now? Will it even matter that I have existed?

Somehow I think not, but this makes me happy.

Because that means, to me, that although my life means nothing in the grand scheme...it means something to me. I am the center of my own universe. The most important player in my story. Not someone else's story. Mine.

So what would you say if I said:
That it is the knowledge of my own unimportance, my insignificance, that frees me from my shackles and gives me reason to continue existing.

You may appear to be unimportant in the big picture, but maybe you're not giving yourself enough credit. There may be people for whom the things you do mean a big deal for them.
Everyone is important regards the grand design. If there were no threads in a rug, it wouldn't exist!

As you said, even if you are unimportant, who cares if you're important to yourself

Actually, I was going to post something exactly like this in reply to your first "what if I said..." post, but I wasn't sure if I could explain it well enough. You took the thoughts right from my brain!

You may or not matter much in the BIG picture. But your piece may influence someone who may really change the whole scheme of things. We are all connected in the struggle of our species. Because, no man is an island.

Limiting "the BIG picture" to our species is what I'm trying to avoid

I recently had the opportunity to view myself in relation to all existence. Like Zaphod in the Infinite Perspective Vortex, I was shown my terrible insignificance. Makes for a good shifting of views.

Things are insignificant when you look at it like "I am individual, one of a billion of my species, there are untold numbers of living organsims on my planet, a planet in a solar system, a solar system in a galaxy, a galaxy in the universe."

I would say 'hell yeah man!'

Insert an "I think" mentally in front of eveything I say that seems sketchy, because I certainly don't KNOW much. Also; feel free to yell at me.
