psilocybe pelliculosa cultivation
#13829495 - 01/22/11 12:32 AM (13 years, 10 months ago) |

There is a batch of psilocybe pelliculosa, very near where i live. I am interested in cultivating some of these indoors, and as well I would like to see if it is possible to transplant. I write this in hopes of advice and any general help and recomendations. I can easily collect coniferous mulch, and make fir tree woodchips. I was thinking maybe create woodchip, mix with forest debris, much how you would cultivate azurescens. And, I could create spore syringes, to inocculate. I was wondering if i go to the place where they grow, can i remove some of the mycellium and transplant this into prepared places, and or create a livable indoor situation. Thankyou -kingcaps36

Wish I could help! I've never seen anyone grow that around here, but you'd have better luck posting this in the advanced mycology forum. Take prints of these, I'm sure once you can trade on the marketplace, if you are positive that these are Psilocybe Pelliculosa, you'll be able to get some good stuff for these wild prints!

ok, so im going ahead, and going to try this. i have yet to cultivate mushrooms before. Though im not deturred. Me and a friend are planning on cultivating cubes soon. anyways my plan is take douglas fir branches, that are completely aged and dead, I have a bottom branch form a hundred foot fir, with moss on it, I have part of the trunk of a young fir tree who died decades ago. some bark from a once large fir tree. Im going to saw these into as small of pieces as i can. maybe break em up with a hammer as well. once i have all this homemade conifer mulch. im going to introduce mycellium from the source of my pelliculosa, and allow them to grow over the whole medium. then i will have a colonized substrate, I then will place this in the appropriate chamber, whereas i can have perlite for making humidity. Wish me Luck. peace and prosperity

so i can also get fir needles of of my roof, should i add these, as well as some moss.
I dont have a pressure cooker, but I wonder if i could heat the wood up in a convection oven to ill of lichen and moss, and what not. or would that not be necesary

It won't work. Using the oven will dry the chips out which is, apart from the risk of contamination, one of the many flaws of the oven tek. You need to have them saturated with water to field capacity. If you don't have a pressure cooker I would suggest that you simply boil them for 60 minutes. Wood chips are a lot less prone to contamination than straw or manure, as they contain resins and tannin which act as natural antibiotics and are growth inhibiting to other fungi such as mold. So pressure cooking them really isn't necessary. Just don't stick them into the oven.
However, if you have never before cultivated mushrooms, I predict that you will have a very hard time getting them to fruit indoors at all. They are a cold fruiting species and these are usually a lot harder to cultivate indoors than the tropical Psilocybe cubensis and Panaeolus cyanescens, as they require more tightly controlled environmental parameters that need to be adjusted in pretty strict cycles. And if you get those right and they actually fruit the yield will be disappointing to say the least. Plus they are only moderately active.
Your best bet is to spread them outside making patches and grow cubes indoors. I am not trying to discourage you, just telling you how it is so you aren't disappointed later on.

If you believe they are true psilocybe you should post pictures in the 'identification forum' and have them identefied accurately. once confirmed, you should make several spore prints, then make liquid culture and so forth and so forth..

Well I suppose I'll make outdoor beds. This next fall I can photograph them. They meet the description in my Audubon field Guide. and I have had mild trips with around 20-30. Freshpicked. Thank you for the positive direction insight.

So. I had found three of the last remaining psilocybe pelliculosa at my spot. I took these stems , used sterilized equipment. chopped the stems and put in a sterilized mixture of agave nectar and well water. placed in a lidded jar. I put this jar in a air vent, for warmth. after 2 weeks, a minute amount of what loooks like white particles appeared. This what i hope is mycellium does not grow fast. and originally the fuzz came off of the mushroom stems, as I would shake it, the white" spread out. Their is definetely no mold. I would post a picture but it would be a really hard shot. to clearly show. I also just took a bunch of douglas fir branches created a mulch. this mulch is soaking in well water for 24 30 hours to absorb moisture. I want to then introduce this "mycellium" into my wood mulch. i added a bit of vermiculite to soak with the wood. I am going to probably dig up a little bit of mycellium. but i dont want to destroy the allready existing colony. so anyways I plan on growing mycellium on my mulch then making an outdoor bed.

today I dug up one half pint of mycellium colonized wood mulch. I added this to a my prepared mulch i made. I put this in a plastic cake box. it is indoors at 50-55 degrees. out door weather is in the fourties. So it is a temp upgrade. I hope to see the mycellium spread!!! T

"Well I suppose I'll make outdoor beds"
This was going to be my recommendation.
You are in the right area! I am going to have to try this in So Cal. (I have this species on agar, strong, right now)
I will do an outdoor bed too, and something indoor too, just to give it a try. ...maybe a week in a fridge with a light on 12/12 then into the GH?
Good luck,
JD

Thank you Object.
Check this species out on agar:
It is unusual, and cool. It kinda started growing along under the surface of the agar.
Another shot:
Take care,

So i had transplanted mycellium into new douglas-fir mulch. i added a layer of pine needles from these trees. Mycellium has grown onto the surrounding wood. Rope like arms and white fuzz. Im concerned though of a spiderweb like grey fungus is growing on he surface. If these are moved outdoors, when the sprign is here; will it matter if this spider web is around or not? Also note i removed this mycellium from outdoors, before we had a snowstorm, so outdoor mycellium is 30 degrees farenheight. indoor where i am doing this lab. The temp is 52-55 degrees. Im excited.

So last night i was photographing my tek. The photos will be uploaded soon!. also I counted four pins altogether. im concerned because this was unexpected. The temp is 53 degrees nearly 17 hours a day. its a good fruiting climate, though i was thinking it would spend time creating more mycelium . The colony has grown in size very impressively, though. The thread was appreciated man. Peace and prosperity.
p.s my powdered wood cake injected with liquid culture, became over run with contaminates im going to let this stuff run its course and compost it : ]

im going to retry tonight I can put a lnk Link to a image hoster oh hey also they are uploaded to my profile allready they never bruised blue. Had a brown spore print, like cinnamon brown yellow staining on a paper towl. I put the unfinished dpore print cap on the surface. left the stem in the wod mulch yellow bruising, or streaking . I dont believe the mycellium i dug up was the conifer mycellium But remember i put the stems in my liquid home made culture. And mycellium has grown out of them. And they connected to douglas fir bark powder added to the culture on accident, after intial colonization.

ok later tongight or tommorow or soon, il put pics of my fully mature mushroom i grew. Beautifull. someone ought to help me I.D
why do i want to mutate. Because i would find it really intriguing. Though i dont want to sterilizze, them. I most likely wont do it. theyre so cool looking allready. I notice that in a douglas fir fresh wood chip a yellow resin is evident. And the yellow bruising on my mushroom. Could these be the same chemical, or built from the douglas fir yellow resin?

Yes was grown off douglas fir mulch. unsure of what the intial colony had as substrate, some pine wood mulch though. But they readily accepted the added douglas-fir mulch. cinnamon brown spore print

Ralafe. I only did a partial print. i then set the cap back into the terranium, as to encourage this to germinate the spores it produced keep up the genetic diversity. I decided not to mutate, as well. The mycellium grew more. and nmo signs of more fruits the temps wqill rise soon. so i might have to wait.
Thanks for the compliments.
If i grow more fruits and have a print id be happy to send it off to anyone!
