I could use some help identifying this mushroom. It is the first I've seen this year. It was growing on the ground in an oak/pine forest. Here is the information I have about it:
a. Habitat
- Southeast Virginia, on ground, oak/pine forest
b. Characteristics of the gills
- off white.. tan color. I'm not sure about the gill 'attachment' etc, pic at bottom of page.
c. Measurements of cap and stem
- 5/8" diamater cap, 5/8" stem length, width about an 1/8 inch.
d. Characteristics of the stem
- light brown, smoothe, hollow (but it was one that had already fallen over, there were a bunch of bigger mushrooms still growing)
e. Characteristics of the cap
- same as stem color, brown, spherical. instead of having a point, there is a droop in the center of the cap.
f. Spore print color
- black (i think)
g. Color that the mushroom briuses
- didn't really see any bruising. the cap is drying out and turning white/tan I think
h. Scent of mushroom
- sort of musty mushroom smell, not like fresh mushrooms, a bug fell out of when i was tapping too. this one had already fallen over but others that looked identical were clumped around it still growing.

here are the pictures:

The spore print color will be important for the ID. Another useful bit of information would be the color of the flesh inside the mushroom. Please cut the mushroom in half vertically and let us know what color the flesh is on the inside of it.

Happy mushrooming!
