Oxygen doesn't cause cubensis to pin prematurely.

This is an argument I've made in other threads, but deserves it's own thread.

There are thousands of places on this forum where someone says, 'don't open that thing to take pictures because you'll cause early pinning'.

Ridiculous.

I'm not saying to introduce fae at the time of spawning. But the parameters for cubes just aren't that sensitive to minor changes in 02 / c02.

You usually can't induce early pinning EVEN IF YOU TRY. There is a chemical signal that the mycelium uses to signal that it has reached the limits of its substrate. As it's gobbling up new substrate it's sending signals saying 'mmm yummy' and then when there's no more 'mmm yummy' it says 'oh oh, run away!' and turns into spores and disappears into the wind.

When was the last time you saw a cow turd in a field that was fruiting prematurely? The myc generally colonizes the whole turd first, even tho the o2 levels are plenty high out there in the fresh air.

Light and air help trigger pinning sure, but when you enrich the sub enuff you'll notice it'll pin fine in the dark before fae is even introduced. But not before the substrate has been colonized. All the substrate that is able to be colonized that is...i.e. it's not drenched, or dry, or full of alcohol from microbial action or already colonized by a competitor fungus.

When  microbes are infecting the sub, fresh air is the solution, not the problem.

So take those pics. And post em!

True, but lack of fresh air and light at full colonization is definitely a pinning un-trigger.
