1. wrap fresh, or dry fruitbodies with "plastic wrap."
2. fill a jar big enough for the mushrooms with petroleum jelly.
3. place mushies in the jar, making sure they are completely covered by the jelly.
4. cover lid. (optional: put dried mushies in the freezer)
5. enjoy... later, much later :wink:

something to be careful of: dont get any jelly on any live/developing shrooms! (honey comb effect)

i'm thinking if you wrap fresh mushrooms in plastic and then push them into a tub of vaseline they'll rot. messy idea...but worth your try.

Real botanists laugh at HPS systems, we do however use high pressure sodium in the parking lot. - artthug

just miss out the plastic wrap step,
and the petroleum jelly step too
I wouldn't even bother with the freezer, just very dry shrooms in an airtight jar, with a small bag etc. of dessicant will last just as long.
or so I imagine....

Make a solution of Everfresh,the stuff in the canning dept that keeps fruit from discoloring during canning,and dip unopened carpophores in it then dry as usual till crisp.seal in a vaccuum bag and freeze.I wait just until the veil is ready to break so as not to soak the gills and add excess moisture.This will create a protective antioxidant seal over the mushroom and prevent and even reverse some bluing.The product is just various fruit acids and dextrose so it is not a true preservative,just a way to prevent oxidation and some degradation of potency :wink:WR

what makes you think this would work? why wouldn;'t the sweating and anaerobic conditions cause for bacteria and rot? as they do with any other preservation idea.
