I don't get it, Alex. If it is your opinion that the UN should not organize elections there yet, then why in response to my question; "Can you give us one example of the US conquering a foreign belligerent and then NOT holding free elections?" did you reply: Afghanistan. 4 months ago. Remember?

Tell you what. Funding and supporting the nightmarish Northern Alliance warlords is going to cause catastrophic trouble in Afghanistan. That's my bet. Ok?
The Northern Alliance wern't our enemies (terrorists), they just so happened to be fighting who we were fighting........so they became our allies. It's that simple.

Perhaps it would be better to feed the starving first?
btw, if the americans had devoted the money they are going to spend destroying Iraq on rebuilding Afghanistan the free elections would already have been held.

So you are saying that it is not yet time for the UN to organize free elections in Afghanistan. I fail to see how it is impossible to organize humanitarian aid and elections simultaneously.

Havn't you learned this "simple" approach has problems? You funded the muslim fundamentalists throughout the 80's in Afghanistan. Do you think that was a wise thing to do? You funded and armed Saddam throughout the 80's. Was that wise?
I'm afraid arming and funding savage dictators just because they are on your side that week may sound "simple" but it has far from "simple" consequences.

Me neither. Why isn't it happening?

Taking a wild guess, I'd imagine it's something to do with the vast majority of the country now being in the hands of brutal Northern Alliance warlords. That's gonna stop humanitarian aid. Not too good for free elections either.
That's the trouble with supporting warlords...
