i get that every now and then..

normally it colonizes over if its a small spot, but if its big its been known to not colonize those parts.

i've been told its yeast or something similar.  as long as those little balls arent yellow, because then you've lost them.

Don't worry about taking better pictures.  That's yeast contamination.  I'd toss them, but occasionally they'll still fruit if you spawn them to bulk.  Definitely don't attempt a grain to grain transfer though.

Thanks RR.

Wish I would have spotted it on the master jar

I'll spawn it anyways just for shits and giggles.

I'm pcing two more loads of jars tomorrow to g2g to from the other 6 jars that look fine to me. They just have a tiny bit of metabolites, once again from being too dry.

Metabolites are normal.  It's not from being too dry.  In fact, slightly dry grains perform much better than ones that are made up too wet.

I never knew metabolites were normal. I always though that they were a sign of stress.

i've noticed that once the myc starts to get really thick, the metabolites become increasingly more visible.

someone told me once it was a stress thing as well but

The key to remember is excessive metabolites are a result of stress.  A small amount is normal.  They're secreted to help break down the substrate.  Others are secreted to help deal with bacteria contamination.  Still others are a response to excessive temperature.

Certain fungi are carefully cultivated under conditions to cause excessive metabolite production, since these are used in antibiotic manufacture.

I've never gotten them to work out. Mine didn't even really want to finish colonizing. Some guy recently was posting his yeasty jars that the myc had successfully colonized. I'm guessing from the lack of updates that he was not successful.

Well see if they finish. they are still on track with the other jars that were g2g'ed and shaken on the same days.

I'll put them all in a 6L dubtub or two and hope for the best.

Thanks for the info guys.

Mine are all fully colonised two cept for half a grain in a few jars. I'm sure they will cover it up though.

Well I saw that I had 6 good jars and 6 yeast jars.

I figured hell I'm going to make up 60 jars(all my jars are small) and g2g them all with the 6 good ones.

Well I looked at them today and I see some yeast in a couple of them too on the grain that is not colonised yet.

I'm sure it will colonise but I don't think I want to use them g2g now....

I don't know what to do with all these rye jars now.

I have some clean cultures on plates that I can put in there, but not enough plates atm to use them all.

I might have to g2g the best jar or two and g2g some edibles and some other things I got going.

Kinds stressful.

I have some lc's but They are getting older and I'm not sure if I trust them any more.

i think you should g2 with your best jars and then just tray and case the other jars..

best to lose 3-4 trays than 60 jars.

i have to do some birdseed today...  i dont wanna though. i've been having bacterial, smooshed grain on the glass problems..
