Depends on the type of extract. Somewhere in the FAQ (cooking, maybe) there is info on an alcohol extract that looks pretty simple, so long as you can procure 200 proof ethanol.

Methanol works best when it is anhydrous. Methanol is the solvent of choice for extracting psilocybin. An extract solution with methanol will contain the highest levels of psilocybin of any other solvent, however will result in less psilocin. Methanol also extracts the largest amount of baeocystin. An easy source of methanol is HEET brand gasoline additive. Some recommend that you distil HEET to remove any bad stuff, but then again, some say its not necessary.

Aqueous ethanol works better than anhydrous ethanol and results in a higher level of psilocin then methanol. Ethanol is not as successful at extracting baeocystin and results in higher levels of urea, a non-active chemical that is difficult to clean from the final product. Everclear is a wonderful example of aqueous ethanol, and at 190 proof, it is plenty strong.

In the absence of ethanol or methanol, the next choice is a dilute solution of acetic acid. This method has similar results to ethanol. Acetic acid is white vinegar.

If one were going to use heet he should DEFINATLY distill it, it is only around 85-90%
