Casing layer colonizing during fruiting
    #13797190 - 01/16/11 02:44 PM (13 years, 14 days ago)

I had 2 6qt trays colonizing for about 22 days. I added 5050 casing about 1/4' thick and covered it up for 2 more days, patched and introduced to fruiting conditions.

Its been 2 days. This morning I woke up and the mycelium has covered 50% of the casing layer. Not thick though like some would call overlay it actually looks nice and healthy.

Did this happen because there wasnt enough FAE? Or is it a a good sign?

Not anyone who knows what they're talking about.  I can count on one hand the number of times I've seen overlay in 40 years.

You should have let the casing layer colonize at least 50% of the way before introducing to fruiting conditions.

Mycelium was already poking through at about 50%.

Im wondering why it continues to colonize.
