Floating grain
    #1379677 - 03/16/03 03:23 AM (14 years, 1 month ago)

Hi

Im not sure if I've read something on here before (the search isnt functioning) but whilst soaking grain in water there are always a few that float to the top. Can these grains be used in the substrate or should they be thrown away? Or does it not make any difference?

Thanks

You can leave them in thier but my friend takes them out his theory is that if they float they cant have to many nutrients in them. But its totaly fine to leave them in. But if its sunflower seeds take them the fuck out they are bad. A couple is ok but they are much harder to steralize so you more than likelly you will have contams with sunflower seeds.

Yeah I did notice that about sunflower seeds, there was one in a previous jar I done and the mycelium wouldnt colonize it.

Thanks

the grains that float are dead....they hold a little water but skimming them off is a good idea....because they dont hold as much and they provide little nutrition...
