Is this Ganoderma lucidum?
    #13793243 - 01/15/11 08:34 PM (13 years, 1 month ago)

I only have this one picture.  I'll I can really say is this was in the fall, in Texas, on an oak tree.  Is it a reishi mushroom / Ganoderma lucidum?

If it's growing from a hardwood, otherwise it's Ganoderma tsugae, if it's growing from a conifer. I don't know about trees so I can't tell you.

Nice! That's an awesome find! It's near the top of my wanted list.

I'd guess that it's Ganoderma tsugae

Do you know what kind of tree the host is?

Yeah, it's on an oak in a bottomland hardwood forest, either water oak or southern red oak (I know my plants way better than fungi!).

I thought it was an Oak Tree looking at the leaf and I admit that I overlooked the text. Ganoderma lucidum it is.

Ya sorry, I just got so excited that you found a gorgeous Reishi that I skipped over some of the important information. Congrats!

Still, it is useful information to leave in the thread, because it might teach something to someone else who's reading it.

lol, that's cool.  I'm still a noob and don't know when something is worth taking more pics of.  I think it was on a living oak tree, btw.

If you want to learn more about a fungus, then it is worth taking pictures of it from as many different angles in as many different lights as possible, both in and out of its natural habitat.
