- 1966: Merry Pranksters conduct 6th Acid Test
Quote:
The Acid Test Chronicles - Page 16 - Portland Oregon - 6th Acid Test - Jan. 15, 1966
Portland was the sixth Acid Test, held Jan. 15, 1966
"Compared to that, the Portland Acid Test was unsurprisingly anticlimactic, although Weir had an extraordinary personal experience. At some point in the evening, he suddenly felt as though he couldn't play a wrong note. "I felt golden," he said, as his hands played effortlessly without him in control, or needing to be. It was a humbling and joyful moment. The next morning was just the opposite. They were rehearsing on headphones, and M.G. and George Walker, the Prankster technicians, began feeding them a delayed sound signal. For the longest time, Weir couldn't get anything right, and blamed himself. -- A Long Strange Trip - Dennis McNally - Page 120
"We did a really good Acid Test in Portland, Oregon, that is not well-known but by this time, we were becoming like a really crack terrorist group. We could hit a place, get in there, mess it up, and be gone before people knew what happened. In that one, a guy off the street, a businessman, came in and paid his dollar and got his hit of acid. He had a suit on and an umbrella. At that time, it was still small enough that one person could become the center of attention. He was out there dancing and somebody hit him with a spotlight and he said, "The King Walks!" And he began to walk with this umbrella and play with his shadow!" The Dead were watching this and playing to every moment so he became the music that people were playing to. -- Ken Kesey - Dark Star Oral Biography - Robert Greenfield - Page 78
"There was one more out-of-town tryout for us, the Beaver Hall Test in Portland. The Test itself has receded into the mists of antiquity, except for the vague memory of playing in an upstairs warehouse with concrete pillars everywhere and bare lath and wiring on the walls. What mattered about the Portland Acid Test was the journey toward it. It began as our first trip together on Further, Kesey's fabled bus. Bobby and I had day-tripped on the bus to see the Beatles at the Cow Palace earlier that year, but for the majority of the band it was a first. Leaving Palo Alto as early as possible, by midafternoon or so, we were halfway up the Central Valley bound for Shasta and points north, and then: Catastrophe! The bus breaks down! Never let it be said that the show did not go on! What to do? We rent a U-Haul truck; we strip the bus and cram all of us -- the band, the Pranksters -- and everything else into the truck. I jump into the shotgun seat up front, and we cruise off into the darkening storm of the worst blizzard in years: over the Siskiyou Mountains in the dead of night. Neal pressing ever onward, the rhythm of the falling snow sweeping through the headlights, sliding in and out of synch with the music piped into the cockpit by means of our patented two-way distort-o-phonic communication system, set up so that those in the back could also hear Neal's multiple personalities conversing with one another. If ever the magic of the open road was distilled into a single experience, it was, for me, that night sitting next to Neal, hurtling into the dazzling play of light and shade on the whirling snow with his voice turning every sentence into a poem, all sensory input synched up (or sometimes not, and that's good too) with the rhythm of the wipers and whatever music happened to randomly penetrate our awareness. Upon our return from Portland, all the scuttlebutt was ablaze with the plans for the "Big One"; the Trips Festival, to take place in San Francisco's Longshoreman's Hall." -- Searching for the Sound - Phil Lesh - Pages 72-73

- 1969: The Malcolm David Sinclair LSD lab bust takes place
Quote:
Scotland Yard Sizes LSD
London (UPI) — Scotland Yard detectives yesterday [January 15, 1969] raided a laboratory built to flood London and New York with LSD worth $55 million. Detectives seized chemicals and equipment for the illicit manufacture of the hallucinatory drug from a laboratory. in London's East End and in raids in the West End entertainment center. A British research chemist, Malcolm David Sinclair, 29 years old, was arrested and police said they were searching eight other persons, including two Americans. The others were not identified.

- 1975: Jeffrey Scott Weimer's mescaline lab is busted
Quote:
MANUFACTURING ALLEGED
Suspect Arraigned on Drug Charge
NORMAN A 23-year-old Norman man was arraigned In Cleveland County district court Thursday afternoon on charges of second-degree burglary after a former conviction and manufacturing a controlled dangerous substance. Jeffrey Scott Weimer, 2900 Chautauqua, a non-student, was arrested in his clandestine laboratory in a fourth floor unused attic area of De Barr Hall by University or Oklahoma police officers Mike Feuerborn and Jim Mustoe. OU Chief of Security Bill Jones said ihe officers confiscated a substance believed lo be synthetic mescaline. Jones said there was enough of the substance for approximately 4,250 doses. Jones estimated the street value of the substance at $12,750 to $21,250. The officers also confiscated chemistry formulas which Weimer had in his possession, Jones said. "There are some inherent peripheral dangers involved in the clandestine manufacturing of this type of hallucinogenic and the consumer has no way of knowing the quantity, quality, or in fact, the level of hygiene used In the production of drugs of this kind," Jones said. Jones said the laboratory was discovered when officers searched the chemistry building following several reports of stolen equipment from the university chemistry labs during tho week. The building was staked out Wednesday evening [January 15, 1975] and Weimer was caught, the chief said.

- 1986: The DEA closes an investigation into whether Alexander Shulgin was manufacturing and distributing MDMA
Quote:
This wasn’t the first time various branches of the DEA seemed confused about Shulgin’s lawful involvement with scheduled drugs. In 1986, another investigation had failed to turn up anything wrong with his MDMA research.
4. A review of case file R3-85 2025 document that an on site investigation of the doctor's registered location (residence) was conducted. The investigation was based on the belief that the doctor was as manufacturing MDMA and shipping the substance to unregistered locations. The investigation disclosed no grounds for criminal, civil or administrative action. The case as closed on January 15, 1986.

I'll add this. It's from the 1/15/1936 edition of the Binghamton Press, about a guy named Alonzo "Buddha" Reynolds getting caught selling weed. My favorite part is them saying he got it for $7.50 a pound. Also the paper openly states they plan to set up the wholesalers from Cleveland he presumably narced on, probably not the best idea to print that where everyone can see if you really want to set them up. This article also said arresting a half dozen street level sellers will eradicate the trade in the city so I guess I shouldn't take it too seriously

Awesome article. $7.50 per pound, huh? Wow. But I'm confused though. Marijuana wasn't illegal until April 14, 1937, right? How could they have been arresting people for it in early 1936?

Some states had their own laws at the time but they weren't uniform.
I found this regarding NY at this link: http://www.druglibrary.org/schaffer/library/studies/nc/nc2_2.htm
Finally, in 1927, whether responding to an increase in use or to the substitution admonition, the legislature included marihuana in its definition of "habit forming drugs" in a comprehensive narcotics bill
Wikipedia says NY began regulating it in 1914 but I can't find the specifics.

Arresting for MJ... must be an alien conspiracy I tell you...
-------------------- And thus begins the reverse-fusing of our one-dimentional understanding, and adds ever-expanding perspectives, in depth and number; splitting our perception, and in so doing, seemingly irrationally, creates yet more one-ness, with all that ever was, is and will ever be, streching across the infinite, inunderstood concept of everything, percievable and not.

Damn so in that Sinclair case in London, that means someone snitched on the whole operation it seems and gave the police all the information they needed? Damn.. who would ever snitch that high up on the chain. And the dude who took a suicide pill right when they caught him... damn!
Also, that whole situation stinks of Ron Stark's meddlings!
