Calcium Hydroxide question?
    #13784724 - 01/14/11 05:45 AM (13 years, 17 days ago)

If SWIM was going to do an extraction that called for pickling lime, specifically calcium hydroxide, would it be alright to use calcium hydroxide that is intended for aquarium use instead of pickling? It's the same thing right?

Something like this -
http://www.amazon.com/E-S-V-Calcium-Hydroxide-1lb/dp/B001EHCDMG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1295008700&sr=8-1

Thanks!

There are different 'grades' of chemicals, for the most part, it's based on how tested chemicals are, looking for impurity and carry-over chemicals.

Culinary use would be fairly pure, close or better than reagent grade. I would guess, and it's just a guess, that the fish use is below reagent grade.

But, is it usable? It should work chemically, yes.

As long as it gets your solution to the intended ph level it'll work. Get a ph meter and add until you reach the desired ph.
