Hocus Pocus Mushroom Kits

Anyone familiar with these kits. 20 petri dishes that you prepare agar. Then you streak 2 of the 20 dishes with the spore sprint. The remaining plates will be used to isolate a pure mushroom culture. Incubate for 10 days to 2 weeks. Then you take the scalpel knife to cut a piece of the stringy mycelium into the remaining dishes incubating again as above till you have isolated a pure strain. Now it says I'm ready to spawn. I've got 2 test tubes to mix water and milo millet, commonly used for birdseed, and after they've cooled mix the mycelium from the petri dish, shake and allow 5 to 10 days for the mycelium to run through the grain and now I'm ready to inoculate the compost( Looks like spaghnum with perlite) . Advice to this newbie is appreciated. Sorry for the long post but, you know, details, the more the better.

Omit the test tubes and use canning jars with some grain (oats, rye, bird seed) its a standard agar run, as for the compost, it shouldnt contain pearlite or spaghnum moss, that woud be for casing...poo should be the compost material

Where did you get the kit from? if you post a link we might be able to help you with what you picked up. Sounds like the incense is for smoking
The bags of dirt is probably the poo/verm combo or something along those lines.

A tube of incense in your mushroom "grow kit"? Really does sound like some "hocus pocus" to me.

No, it's ok. Just a bit weird. I think the incense is a sample, but post a pic? Also of the kit?

I'll have to do that tomorrow as am working right now but will be happy to anything that can help sort this thing out as I don't want to waist good spores. Kinda frustrating trying to go from plants to fungi for a change thought the kit was a good investment

Iv seen that kit around retailing from $140-200 Canadian dollars. In theory it gives you everything you need to grow mushrooms yes, but what it omits to say is the level of sterile procedure you need to attain results. If I remember correctly it claims you can grow 20lbs of mushrooms from the kit. Iv seen a few friends buy this kit(YEARS AGO) and not a single one of them ever reached fruits from it. Read up on sterile procedure and take pictures of the kit and items so someone here can lay out proper procedure. You might want to invest in making a glove box as well. IMO agar is not a good place for most uber n00bs to start, but I am not saying it cannot be done. Read up and make sure you understand all steps and procedures before you start anything.

They are "Cubes", and thats the best answer anyone can give you as all the different veriaties of cubes are just from different genetics, just like humans. the name "B+" is irrelevent.
It's kinda funny how this thread keeps getting revived

That kit is the one marketed by High Times. The contents are to grow from P.Cubensis spores onto agar, then isolate your mycelium to select rhiozomic mycelium which you colonize that tiny test-tube of birdseed with. Once colonized, you are meant to to do a spawn run into the sterilized bigger "bag of dirt"; actually a pro-mix compost, and case with the smaller "bag of dirt"; a mix of ph balanced peat moss.
I bought that very kit about 6 years ago now, and it worked fine for me. My grow methods have changed since, but I have never bought spores since. All subsequent grows are from prints related to that kit. So though pricy, it has paid itself off.
Hope that answers your questions.
