At last the first proper grow.
Method:
PF Cakes cut in half on an inch of damp verm lightly covered with 50/50 +
Strain:
Transkei
This is only the third time mushrooms have been produced and the first time 50/50 was used. I deffinatley noticed the difference
Cained the lot with a friend last week and was very happy with the results.
So I've you've tried and failed a few times like I have. Keep trying, it does work.
Grain next I think.

No problem cOma. I just put the casing in a plastic storage bin and used a plastic sheeting cover edged with a wood frame as in PF's bible. Oh yer and a deep layer of perlite at the bottom.

What did you mean by the wood thing on the plastic? Can you explain that again, im kinda confused. Also, how many cakes did you do per casing? . And what did you use in the 50/50? Thanks man!

I think it was about 4 cakes cut from the side not the staight down the middle. Ok here we go. Get some thin pieces of wood and make a frame larger than your storage bin. Like a picture frame. Then get a sheet of plastic from the local DIY shop ans staple it to it. The reason you make your frame larger than the bin is so it acts as a weight making a seal.
It's easier if I show you.......

Thanks for the pic. Well i was asking you which 50/50 mix you used. The "default" is peatmoss/verm, i know that, but did you use anything special?
Also what did you use for lighting. Like how many hours a day on/off? Awsome man, very nice casing!

The good guys at mush mush, it's south african from what I remember.
Colonization was very fast rizomorphic strands shooting all over the substrate (PF).

I'd love to hear how their potency compares to other psilocybes that are more commonly grown. Sounds like a promising strain to case with.

I've only grown shrooms a couple of times but I've done a lot of liberty caps and in my opinion the Transkei were pretty potent. If your going to get yeilds like that then I will be growing them again. As for the weight unfortunatly I don't have any scales so I'm unable to determine the weight but rest assured there was a lot of em.

4 cakes sliced through the middle.
Both were just from a garden/pet shop just down the road from my house. The crushed oyster shell has something to do with birds and the lime is easy to hold of.

That's amazing for such a simple casing.That's better than my poo flushes. I bet if i used the 50-50+ casing I'd see much better results.

I've not tried the poo yet maybe I will later in the year.
Give the 50/50 + a try this is my first casing with it and I will never go back now.

That is very nice yield you have there but it looks like there is green mold in the 2nd pic. Might just be the camera or lighting though.

Your right. There was a slight green problem and thats why I didn't wait for a second flush. I ate them with no dodgy side affects and beleive me they were strong!!
