I have the utmost respect for Dr. Hoffman.  I read "My Problem Child" while I was a teenager, took up chemistry at the university, and am now about halfway finished with my dissertation.

It was funny because when I was giving my committee members drafts of my dissertation, the 1 organic chemist (cool old Berkley hippy) saw that I acknowledged my scientific heros--Albert Hoffman, Alexander Shulgin, and who could forget Sir Humphrey Davy (of nitrous oxide fame).

What amazed and impressed me with Hoffman was that the first trip was an accidental exposure (can you imagine how terrifying that would be?  You start tripping balls, but there is no precedent for it?).  But then he had the cajones to repeat the dose again intentionally.  Good, solid science "hmm, I wonder if this happens EVERY time?"

He was an excellent chemist and by all accounts a good man.

We love you, Dr. Hofmann! Thank you so much for what you've done for humanity and the doors you have opened up.

If I didn't last week, I would have dropped in his honor, but I'll spark a few blunts his memory instead.

I always love to see Shroomerites pay homage to Albert Hofmann.  :heartpump:

Well said.  And the fact that he didn't know how much to take the second time around was crazy too.  He took too much because he had no idea how powerful it was.

No doubt--he wrote about that.  I think he took 1mg, figuring that was about 1/4 the dose of the closest analog.  He figured he would be well inside the safe range.  He said he, and all the folks at Sandoz were stunned at how powerful this material was (is!).

It was actually 250 micrograms, which is 1/4 of a milligram.  But still, we're talking pure Sandoz LSD and we're talking about the first time it was taken purposely with like you said, no precedent.  Uncharted territory.

I think you mean 1/4 of a milligram Learyfan.

My friends and I took an LSD microcode in a whim today. I guess now we know why that whim occurred to us.

Happy Birthday Albert!

Haha, yeah I mean to say milligram.  I corrected it.  But yeah, I love that you unknowingly took LSD on Albert Hofmann's birthday.  It was a very fitting tribute.  I hope you had a great time.

50th anniversary of "The Big Prophet" episode of Dragnet and 55th anniversary of Timothy Leary's attempt to buy a ridiculous amount of psychedelic drugs, including 1 gram of LSD, from Albert Hofmann today.  Coincidentally he was doing so on Hofmann's birthday.
