just ordered a plant off MOD EDIT: Removed non-sponsor link. Please read our rules to understand why, thanks!, i know its winter which is a bad time for plant shipping but i could not wait no longer. i come here to ask you of any advice on salvia, what should be the first thing i do with it when it arrives? i know its not too hard to grow, but i would love to hear more on this subject from people who have grown it. if i can get enough of these growing ill happily spread this plant to anyone who wants to use it responsibly.
have a good day now

I'm sort of in the same boat as you and the first thing I did was make a humidity tent/dome for it. I think this is one of the first things you should be doing too.

ohh sorry for that link, i thought it would be alright to post that info. sorry,
yes a humidity tent is in order, a tomato cage and some plastic is some more materials that i need. do salvia need certain PH levels of soil? im not really clear on this part as where i never read any info on that.

In my honest opinion you should ask for your money back if you bought them from a vendor. Those plants arrived in disgusting shape and I wouldn't spit on them. I should of left that link up that you posted to shame the vendor but my bosses wouldn't like that too much.
But.....
You've done very well in getting them to show life again.

Oh i forgot to mention, this came from a fellow member. the original site i listed said they dont send outside USA.
>You've done very well in getting them to show life again.
I thought so too!
>Wasson-Hoffman is one thing.
Yes, but i thought naming two plants with the same name would be confusing.

I'm pretty sure you some how managed to perform a miracle of Resurrection by getting them to show any green, I'm impressed Maybe snip off the rotten upper stem so it doesn't effect the living tissue & with allot of luck & care you may be able to get it to grow, but I wouldn't get your hopes up too much they are in pretty bad shape.
Best of luck,

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/13911388/page/1 --> start from point 5, then follow: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/13898568
but anyway those plants arrived in terrible condition. If you live in a freezing climate I'm not surprised; they may have 'died' in transit. Very nice job resurrecting them! zombie plants!!

I probably wouldn't risk a soil transplant yet. Wait until it grows a bit so you can take a cutting and then once it is rooted you could then plant it into a new soil mix or wait until that plant has recovered and then transplant into new soil. Looking good otherwise!

Your soil looks really wet I would let it go for a little while without watering it. You don't want fungus to start growing. I never did the humidity tent thing and my plants never looked that bad. I just made sure to water them when the soil dried out and mist them every so often. If you can remember to mist them once or twice a day when they get established the leaves will get huge. I think the biggest mistake people make though is overdoing it with the watering and humidity they don't live in bogs LOL. But I have to say your doing an amazing job keeping that thing alive. I once had a scale infestation that killed my plant back to a nub like that and grew it out into a really nice plant it isn't impossible.
Trust me I have been growing the stuff for about 10 years now.

I wouldn't see why they wouldn't grow. I bet the freezing will make seed extraction easier. Just be sure to wash all the pulp off the seeds, it will help them germinate.
Try it and report back.

i will try that. but i have just discovered a problem and i need a solution fast! ...earlier, i have noticed some very small white bugs in my salvia pot. i think it is bugs called spring tails, ive read that they can be harmless, never the less, i want them out. anyone have any safe/organic ways of removing these bugs??
letting the plant dry out is suppose to make them become scarce, but that is not a option here with this humid loving plant.
