Humidity
    #1375462 - 03/14/03 10:10 AM (13 years, 11 months ago)

Hello all. I am new to growing, and I was wondering if it is really ok to keep my growing chamber humid by using a spray bottle. Do I NEED a ultra sonic humidifire or anything elseof this sort, or will the mister be ok?

I was gonna tell you to search, but since its down ill tell ya.

You can use anything from misting, humidifiers, perlite, or a combination to keep humidity. You will have to figure out what is optimal for you and ur purposes. Misting is fine, but don't hose it. Generally, just mist the walls and maybe a squirt or two directly. During first initial pinning try not to directly mist, this has a tendancy to cause aborts

On his first grow with PF cakes, my neighbor tried to humidify his chamber by misting alone. In two weeks his cakes had all shriveled up and turned blue. On his second grow he used damp perlite - shrooms galore!

yes, batman would have to agree. Perlite is a wonder. Batman just started growing and has damp perlite and has 60 plus NICE pins growing rapidly on one single cake. and the walls are covered it that mist that doesnnt drip on cakes and its cheap too.

Yes perlite really helps to retain that rH, but it's messy and sometimes really annoying. It is definitely advised to use with cakes though, the need alot of humidity. Casing is the best way to go essentially, but requires a little more work of course

Best low cost humidty is perlite and dunk your cakes before first flush and right after picking a flush.

If you can spring for it, Wally World has an ultra sonic for $35.00. I use it w/ a timer. It makes for a hassel free terrarium. It runs every 8 hrs for 2hrs. With a little exhaust port at the bottom of the terrarium it even provides air exchange. One could be gone for a few days and all would be well. The convenience factor is worth the dough if you can scrounge it.

Misting and a perilite resevoir will work , must work out system to where you are keeping good humidity but not soaking eveything too much . A cheap , effective , fairly automatic system can be bought at Petsmart in the reptile area . It is called "TROPIC AIRE " humidifier air exchanger . They work great ! Here is a photo of what to look for , if you chosse to do this get a fish pump that if for a 55 gal or bigger tank .
