Bush and the U.N.
    #1374968 - 03/14/03 05:05 AM (21 years, 19 days ago)

As we've all seen, the Bush administration is using a U.N. resolution as their primary justification for war. Yet the U.N. hasn't authorized use of force in Iraq. So in response, the Bush administration essentially says, "Screw the U.N.! We're going in anyway!" Doesn't anyone see the hypocrisy in this? They're saying Iraq must comply with the U.N., while at the same time refusing to do so themselves. It's like a Canadian mounty or Mexican federali coming into the U.S. to enforce our laws, without our permission.

Hypocrisy?!? In government?!? Hell yes, it just shows how weak the administration's position is. Too bad more people don't see that the emperor has no clothes.

To call humans 'rational beings' does injustice to the term, 'rational.'  Humans are capable of rational thought, but it is not their essence.  Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains.  Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.

You are absolutely right!

Johnny, show silversoul7 what he has won!

Seriously, the U.N. is over. Its time has come just like the League of Nations before it. If Saddam didn't listen then why should Bush.

I don't know if the UN will last through all this but I do know when it's in Americas interests that the UN is used as a shining beacon of hope. I also know as far as veto's go the US is more prone to use it than anybody else out there. The last time they used it was several months ago when a resolution condeming Isreal for killing several UN aid workers in Palestinian territories.

I am all for bagging the UN. What I am not for is one day it's cool and the next we can just ignore it.......

The UN never banned the US from invading Iraq. But the UN imposed a WMD ban on Iraq. If the UN decides not to go to war, but the US does, does this constitute a breach of UN resolutions?

I think the US would look like real big asses on the world stage if they go ahead with this...without UN backing...

What's the US waiting for anyways...they don't need the UN...or anyone else. This could be an assertive historical move by USA. An asertation of sheer dominance and power. Come on, y'all wanna do it, what are ya waiting for?

The resolutions are the official reason, of course. I dislike the war concept, but damnit, the war's obviously going to happen, so they should just get it over with, shut up and let the rest of the world stop holding their breath.
