shit is messy. i have tried pastuerisation twice now and both times i have been cursed with infection and a shit splattered bathroom. and contrary to popular belief ...wet shit does smell...bad. maybe it's bacterialized? has anyone tried to microwave thier horse or cow poo? what are the pros and cons ?

I haven't tried, but someone did - in the grow log forums, i'm not sure how to go about finding the post though. =\
There was success, but you'll probably have to try it yourself.
if you had trouble before - I would take a pot of boiling water. Let it stop boiling. Put the poo in a pillowcase into that pot. And let it sit for an hour.

well, i'm trying to avoid over soaked poo. which is hella-messy. so i think i'll just mist it with water to get it moist and keep it from catching fire in the microwave and then nuke it for 5, 10, and 5 minutes again. spawn.
i have been pastuerising using the method you suggest. although i monitor the tempt with a thermometer and add heat as neccecssary.

then perhaps try taking the therm
putting pot on range, cooking water to 160 - soaking at that temp for an hour. dont let it go above, below to 145-150 isn't so bad.

yes, you can.
Since the search feature is down, i can't give a link, but a few old posts i made in the G.L. forum have details. Basically, pour boiling water over your poo (break it up really finely into dirt consistence first), then let it sit for a while then nuke three times at about 600W for 8 or so minutes, stirring in between each nuke. Afterwards, cover with aluminum foil, and when cool, squeeze out as much water as you can, and spawn.

BTW, add a lot of water, since you will be reaching in and squeezing the excess out. Use the left over brown/black water to feed your houseplants.

the whole idea is NOT to add a lot of water...because this is messy....my idea is to mist...sprinkle..spray...the poo to a nice moist level. nuke in the microwave. allow to cool. spawn.

Okay, you asked a question, and I gave advice for a technique which has been proven successful. I do not know if your idea will work, so try it and post your results. The method I posted, I KNOW will work, and IME is not all that messy so long as you aren't afraid of putting your hands into poo water and as long as the container you use isn't filled to the brim.

I used to do the pillow bag soak type pasteurisation and always ended up with squirts of shit juice all over the kitchen from squeezing out the excess water. Now I get my dry poop, add enough water to get it to a nice consistency, plus a bit more to make up for evaporation and nuke it until it feels hot enough, leave it for an hour of so, then nuke it again. You'll have to play by ear how long you nuke it for depending on how much shit you're doing at a time...

i'm a clumsy fuck and i manage to pasteurize poo sans mess. throw your oven rack over your sink. set freshly pasteurized poo in pot next to sink. get some decent gloves (i use these blue gloves at Bed Bath and Beyond) and set the poo on the rack. after it has stopped voluntarily dripping, don the gloves and squeeze it like somebody's head. not little fistfulls but the whole thing at once. squeeze until it doesn't drip much unless really squeezed hard. now pick up the rack with poo on it and stick in the oven and bake on low (my oven on the lowest setting with the door cracked stays right at 170F). This will not only further pasteurize but also dry the excess water out. I usually have to bake for about 1.5 hours. No, this isn't the answer your looking for but the only mess this creates is contained in the sink and the pasteurizing vessel. somebody around here has a method where they just put the poo and water in the oven striaght up and bake it and then peel the hardened part off then use the goodies underneath. whatever floats your boat.

This is how I pastuerize with little mess.
Pick up dried feces in field and put it in a pillow case.
Tie a knot it in and beat it on the garage floor til it is all busted up.
Put in my big stainless steel pot and set a brick on top.
Cover with water and put on the stove.
When you check the temp make sure you get the thermometer in the very middle of the poo.
Keep it at 165 for an hour.
Take the whole pot outside and tie up the pillowcase so it is hanging with the poo water dripping back into the pot.
I let it drain all it can and cool off some then use rubber gloves and squeeze it really hard.
Use the cooled off poo water for roses or something.

that works well for you? consistently? seems like the bashing wouldn't break it up too well or remove bugs/wood/rocks/etc. also, hanging outside around here will get gnats in your shit REAL fast.

are you using fresh or old dried shit? I live right about the MS coast and gnats are bad but only on the fresh shit. I pick up the old dry turds they never have rocks in them. Smashing the pillowcase againsts concrete or even against a large tree then rub outside the case with your hands to be sure. *Ive done it for over a year with no hassles, cept the pot overboiled and I had a mess once. Keep your eye on it.
