Thanks for the ideas. Never thought about harassing murder and war victims...

I thought "emotional terrorism" had a nice ring to it.

What's the difference between Madeleine McCann and jokes about Madeleine McCann?
Eventually, jokes about Madeleine McCann will get old.
What's the difference between Pope John Paul II and Madeleine McCann?
The Pope died a virgin.
A few chestnunts from the Madeleine McCann memorial site.

Yeah, I agree its gotten a bit ridiculous. Personally I tend to think worse of the person who calls someone a troll then the accused troll- seems just another name calling rant in most cases.
I figured the troll accusations are just things said by people who have nothing to say on the merits and so retreat to personal commentary.
Zappa: what do you mean? Those posts were claimed to have broken the rules in the philosophy forum by a moderator?

I started going to a forum where "because you are a fucking idiot" was a valid philosophical argument.
Yeah, I don't post on other forums and every once in a while when I stumble across one I notice this as well. It really seems strange to me that the shroomery of all places has more enlightened discussion. I've wondered why that is a few times. I'm continually impressed by how smart and educated people on here are. You can find someone to help you with your graduate physics homework, cultivating your plant, or making a nice dinner for two.

I got branded a troll there actually for displaying little to no emotion, and treating everyone equally. I was told that I should have been kinder to a young girl, while being told I would have my head ripped off and my neck shat down.
Yeah, this kinda thing is pretty strange. I think emotionalism is exactly the kinda thing that isn't helpful and seems to enflame situations rather than resolve them. I mean, there's a reason scholarly articles and court opinions et cet don't reason out their papers with claims of "Plaintiff is a giant bitch on wheels" or "Einstein said so, but Einstein is a stupid jew fag". I don't get why people expect, even seek, that kinda crap I always figured it embarassed them to be defeated by someone who didn't seem phased by their tantrums, but I don't know.

If you get a reply at a forum that is undesired it might be because you are wrong in your argument (fair enough, shit happens) there has been a misunderstanding (fair enough, shit happens), you were right but the other person either doesn't see it (fair enough, shit happens), or doesn't want to (shit happens)or someone is fucking with you just for the hell of it (shit happens)...None of these situations are that big a deal.
If a poster repeatedly fucks with you for the hell of it (I guess the closest to trolling) a pattern will form which is quite obvious to other members. IMO it is this member that looks like a dick.

The moral of this post?
Shit happens.
So true. And really the failsafe is the ignore feature if you really get that butt hurt. Trolling is one of the best avenues for exposing fallacies that I know of. It's a mystery why it is vilified by the admin.

Man that mod must be seeing something I certainly cannot. I'd love to see his explanation. I'm sure it's dark and convoluted.

Actually it was rather sparse. Something about my "tone" was thrown in for more obfuscatory good measure.

LOL. Ya know I just don't get the Boxxy haters. She seems sweet, a little dumb and charmingly daft. I wouldn't want to hang out with her but that holds true for the great majority of people on the planet.

The girl wanted to be a celeb and when she got there she was terrified of what happens. She got the special attention without the special protections that money buy.
All celebs are trolls IMO but her and Joaquin Phoenix are the only ones that seem to be up front about it.
