Calling someone an animal...
    #1374215 - 03/14/03 12:36 AM (14 years, 4 months ago)

So this is the story. I used to have a book called "The little red hen" and the hen goes around asking the other animals a question, can't remember what, and the animals all say "Not I, said the Cow", etc. Anyway, someone asked me something one day and I answered "not I", and I was going to say "said the [animal]" but I couldn't think of one animal name that wasn't derogatory.

Let's see... cat, dog, snake, cow, horse, rat, mouse, parrot, monkey, rodent, ferret, mole, pig, chicken, elephant, ape, turkey, slug, goose, maggot, hippopotamus, mule, skunk, scorpion, fish, cheetah, fox, crab, donkey, hog, sheep, whale, etc.

Actually, I thought of a few that were not derogatory while thinking of those, but still, that's a lot, eh.

I wonder if that's part of why we don't treat animals with much respect - us humans, because we are taught that they are not desirable. Or maybe disrespect has inspired the language. Sad reflection on us?
