    #13729120 - 01/04/11 12:08 PM (13 years, 1 month ago)

Can plastic culture plates be put in the pressure cooker or will they melt?  I have some from a year or two ago and want to clean them?  Is rubbng alchohol good enough and if not, can they be PC'ed with out melting?

If they are made from polypropylene they can be pressure cooked. All plastic containers have a small label engraved in them stating which type of plastic they are made from. Ones made of polypropylene have a label that says PP. If they are made from anything else I dont think they can be pressure cooked.

If you are talking about disposable plastic petri dish's then NO, they
are not pressure cookable. I myself tried to save a few old unused
plates by rubbing them down with alcohol in front of my flowhood and
letting them dry there. Every "cleaned" plated that I poured into got
contams from the bottom of the agar.

I would suggest just buying a new sterile sleeve of dish's and using
the old ones for storing nic nacs.
