ground lime asking
    #1372687 - 03/13/03 12:54 PM (15 years, 2 months ago)

i red and try to understand how does it react to the casing.
for now i havent got anything to measure ph day by day
but i red it reacts slow
so DOES this mean if i put the groundlime into my casing a few days ago before i sterilize them
does something happens more quick?

hey, fugu!. long time no see. question #1 what are you using for casing? I ask because you may or may not need to be adding lime. You need to get some pH test strips (aquarium stores have them) or a meter since you need to know when you have achieved proper pH. I think you are asking how fast the lime will buffer the casing. it's effects are near instantaneous given that it is mixed well. the slow part is in how fast it will become acidic again as the mycelial metabolic wastes will do this. Generally speaking, in the time it takes for the pH to be "too" acidic the casing has neared it's useful lifespan. of course, if you have test strips you can monitor the pH.
