Terrarium HELP!!!
    #1371243 - 03/13/03 04:03 AM (14 years, 3 months ago)

The cat needs to build a TERRARIUM FAST.
the cat bought a rectangular fish tank. Inside it, he wants to put perlite(dry) and place the cakes on top of this. If he went out and bought a fish heater thing and added a jar of water( would hydrogen peroxide work 2?be better???) and put the heater in to make humidity and temp increase, would this be sufficient enough. He too will put filters in the sheet of plastic covering the aquarium to keep fresh air going in and out. He needs your suggestions!. What could he add to make this better?

What do you mean by dry perlite?you should pour water over the perlite to aid humiderty. Also set it up and check the temps if its too cold in there then add the fishtank heater in a jar.But normal room temp is ok for me.
Good luck with it.

For fruiting it would probably work, just raising the temp a couple of degrees above ambient room temperature. However, a friend finds the heater-inside-a-jar to be troublesome in his incubator setup.

Definatly wet the perlite.. you want lots of humidity if doing cakes. A friend of mine even has a casing in the same terrarium as cakes.. we'll see how he does.

the jar and fish tank heater works great. without it my friends terrarium bottoms out at 60 degrees. if you need to rise the temp that is the way to do it. and perlite must be wet..

- please do.

so, if the cat put the perlite at the bottom of the tank, and then opens up a fresh bottle of water to make it wet, that should be good, because that water is sterilized (aberfoyle) Then the cat wants to have a cup of 50% h20 and 50% h202 where a fish bubbler will be inserted into, as well as a fish tank heater. the cat will only turn the heater on based on what the inside measurements for temp are. Does the perlite have to be changed every so often? because it is a known fact that if water just sits in a humid environment, it's a growing place for many bacteria. Perhaps adding h202 to the h20 may prevent bacteria in the perlite??? someone help, fast....answer every question in this...

My friend has done this before and it worked OK for both cakes and casing.
