Great Minds Think Alike?
    #1367824 - 03/12/03 02:54 AM (21 years, 1 month ago)

I think not.

This is one of those things repeated so much that it's accepted as truth.

From what I've seen great minds show a diversity of beliefs and opinions. Some of the smartest people I know are people I disagree with.

Hmm... How shall I put this?  I think "well, duh!" just about sums it up.

I think it's just an expression people use sometimes.  No one really takes it literally or holds it as absolute truth.  At least not me or anyone else I know.  It's just a funny thing that we've been socialized to say sometimes when we have the same idea as someone else.

yeah, it's more of a compliment to the other person (and a bit of modesty on your part lol). it's kinda of facetious. just instead of saying "hey we had the same idea!" we say "great minds think alike" usually jokingly.

peace and love,

There is definitely truth to this statement if looked at in this manner:

The higher the degree of clarity and awareness, the more minds will be aligned with truth; whereas more confusion and unconsciousness will lead to a wide variety of random thoughts and faulty conclusions.

For example: the great teachers/mystics almost all believe that love is the highest path and teaching; whereas lesser leaders (such as kings, dictators and presidents) create much havoc in the world with their bellicose "teachings" and dog-eat-dog vision of the world.

The proof is in the pudding.

I've noticed that the more opinions others share with me, the more intelligent they are

--------------------
To call humans 'rational beings' does injustice to the term, 'rational.'  Humans are capable of rational thought, but it is not their essence.  Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains.  Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.
