- 1999: George Harrison is stabbed by an intruder at his home
Quote:
Knife attack
In late 1999, Harrison survived a knife attack by an intruder in his home. At 3:30 am on 30 December 1999 36-year-old Michael Abram broke into the Harrisons' Friar Park home and began loudly calling to Harrison. Harrison left the bedroom to investigate while his wife, Olivia, phoned the police. Abram attacked Harrison with a kitchen knife, inflicting seven stab wounds, puncturing a lung and causing head injuries before Olivia Harrison incapacitated the assailant by striking him repeatedly with a fireplace poker. The attack lasted approximately fifteen minutes. Abram, who believed he was possessed by Harrison and was on a "mission from God" to kill him, was later acquitted of attempted murder on grounds of insanity, but was detained for treatment in a secure hospital. He was released in 2002 after 19 months' detention. Since John Lennon's assassination in 1980 Harrison had rarely made public appearances, except at tightly controlled settings such as Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductions.

Less than two actually.
Here's a video by Olivia, Dhani and George Harrison about the attack, along with others.

Yeah, how the fuck do you survive 40 stab wounds fine, then have that happen? Sad times. He shouldn't have had an affair with Ringo's wife, though. Maybe God got him back.

Quote:
Harrison reportedly leapt up from bed, threw on shoes and a coat, and told Olivia to stay back. Harrison ventured outside the bedroom and described the chaos that happened next:
“[Abram] was hysterical and frightening. He said words to the effect of, ‘You get down here, you know what it is.’ I could see a knife in one hand and the spear from part of the statue in the other.
I shouted, ‘Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna.’ He rushed towards me… I ran at him. I was aware of my wife approaching and striking him about the head with a brass poker … He stood up and chased my wife. I feared greatly for her safety and hauled myself up to tackle him.
I placed my hands around the blade … I vividly remember a deliberate thrust of the knife down into my chest. I could feel blood entering my lungs. I could feel my chest deflate. I felt blood in my mouth and air exhale from my chest. I believed I had been fatally stabbed.”
Another frightening coincidence about this whole situation is that George's home in Hawaii was broken into by an intruder exactly one week earlier by another nut case named Cristin Keleher. George wasn't there at the time. Click that link I put in her name to read the story about how she was murdered almost exactly 7 years later. It's insane that two of George's homes were broken into in the span of one week back in 1999.
As for the asshole who almost killed both George and his wife Olivia, the last trace I can find of him on the internet is from 2005. He was found not guilty by reason of temporary insanity and then released 2-1/2 years after stabbing George. In 2005, he was working somewhere called Citizens Advice Bureau. In Liverpool!
