Need help identifying these beautiful specimens before I start consuming. They were found underneath a large pine tree about mid November on Vancouver Island. Please take a look at my gallery in the amanita? folder. Didn't figure out how to post the pics on the message board, sorry.

If you want to eat A. pantherina, you might want to warm up with a couple belts of syrup of ipecac. Probably get much of the same results.

You just copy and paste the link that you see under the picture in your gallery into your post. This Sticky should help you out with your ID request, and the first link you see in it is about how to post pictures.

I've never heard of anything positive happening from ingesting A. Pantherina

Yes, those look like Amanita Pantherina to me.
I have also found a more yellowish capped version.
Pantherina have the same alkaloids / toxins as the Muscaria. It is reported that it may be stronger that A. Muscaria.
One side effect of both Muscaria and Pantherina is blurred vision that lasts from days to a full week (you wake up afterwards and cannot read typed pages, your eyes can't focus). Also, profuse sweating and cold flashes. You trip but it is not too good of a feeling (at all).
Also, almost all Pantherina's are riddled with maggots. Start drying them and they will pour out like rice ... yuck !
I wouldn't recommend the experience.

I have experience with A. Muscaria, and what I have read about the pantherina, its more toxic... never tried it, but could say that for a lot of poisons... I believe natives in the area used to winter over using A. Muscaria in some vision questing... but... not something I advise...
But... just one person's opinion... I know others will think differently...

Okay, I also don't recommend using pantherina, but properly prepared Amanita muscaria in low doses (used "responsibly") is an extremely pleasant experience for me. OP if you're really adamant on eating A. pantherina, heat-dry it and take a SMALL dose (1 gram at most) to test the potency. If properly dry it isn't "toxic" or very harmful, but for God's sake be careful!

re: Tangich
Yes I have.
The first time I tried Amanita Muscaria dried cap skins I felt like I was tripping off of Psilocybe's, I loved it !
The next time I tried dried Amanita Pantherina cap skins. I took them around sunset and decided to go for a hike. Next thing you know, I got really hot and sweaty, and had to eventually sit down. I started feeling really nauseous and suddenly felt like I was gonna throw-up and shit myself at the same time. I was so hot I took off my hat and coat and just proped myself up against a tree. I literally felt like I was dying or something really horrible. Next thing you know, I woke up and the sun was coming up, I was shivering cold and went home. Then next 3-4 days I couldn't focus on any printed material, my eyes just couldn't see fine details. Eventually my eyesight returned to normal.
I have never wanted to try Amanita Muscaria or Pantherina ever again.
I feel lucky to be alive.

Actually, I may try Amanita Muscaria again in small amounts, like 1-2 medium skinned caps in a tea... and go up from there.
This stuff is not psilocybin. Something weirder and kinda noxious.
