Too High CFM HEPA
    #13694005 - 12/27/10 11:42 PM (13 years, 1 month ago)

My first post! I thought i had a good understanding of flow hood construction until now. i had purchased this HEPA for cheap thinking it would work. Now i think this Filter is way too big for a flowbench. It flows 2000 cfm @ 1.7"!!

i have the astrocel I HCX gel seal with plywood

Page 7 has the flow chart.

Now i have confused myslef with all this data. I think this filter has too much flow to build enough plenum pressure to achieve laminar flow at 100scfm over the work area.

I am overwhelmed by the amount of posts on this topic i just went ahead and posted this. i apologize if this has been covered already

After more research, I still think this filter is for an air scrubber and not a flowbench. If so, i could use it to scrub the air in the room and work off an enclosed bench or glovebox, but i'd like to have flowbench.

If there are any experts on this topic who think i could use it for a bench after some modifications that would be great!

That flow is way to high to be used as a flowhood. The plenumb that you would need to build and the fan to push it would both be humongus, not very practical for home use IMO. However, you could use it to scrub the air on an entire floor of your house,
you want a filter that runs at about 1.0 to 1.2

You could use it , but it would be a waste of energy as a glove box works on still air, and it would not be neccesarry if you built a flowhood that would be suitable for mycology work.

Hope that helps

that does help a bunch as it confirms my doubts. i will most likely use as an air-scrubber for the room i will be working in and build a glovebox or enclosed workbench (which i could uprade to a flowhood later) until i get a suitable hepa and blower. Thanks a bunch!!
